It doesn't always work like that. Why would Ferguson buy another old centre back when he he has Vidic and Ferdinand? Smalling is good enough to be back up to those two yet is young enough to improve.ResurrectionRooney wrote:coolhead33 wrote:So you're saying that if you have better players on your team then you're a better player?ResurrectionRooney wrote:JMB_94 wrote:I just love the shameless bias in the OP.
A picture of Smalling with the Premier League trophy, and Vermaelen being shown a red card.
Smalling's career is characterised by success after success after success, a meteoric rise from Maidstone to the top of the game, in England at least. Vermaelen's career is characterised by failure. There is a lot of hidden poetry and art in my posts.
No, quite the opposite, if you are a better player you sign for a better team.

In that case, Maxwell > Evra and Pinto > De Gea
Don't argue against it, because it's a fact according to your logic.

United were better than Barcelona when Maxwell and Pinto signed for them.

Sanchez must be better than Ronaldo then...
You do realise that players sometimes choose to sign for a different team?

No, but I'm nearly always right with what I say on this forum, although a lot of that is down to careful phrasing as much as anything else.

Stupid comparison, Barcelona couldn't afford Ronaldo.

No they weren't. Barca had just won the CL when Maxwell signed.

The whole thread has been a disgrace. I was hoping for a serious comparison of these two players, instead degenerates have taken over and turned it into points scoring, stupid personal questions, and comparisons between completely different players.

The trophies won argument is terrible. You're probably just trolling with that though.
Gareth Barry has as many FA Cups as Fabregas so therefore they are probably as good as each other.

Re: Chris Smalling Vs. Thomas Vermaelen
Vermaelen is quicker, better in the air, fantastic striker of the ball and is balls to the way in terms of tackling.
RR isn't trolling, it's not stupid to think Smalling is better than Vermaelen but it is a somewhat irrational, personally I think you're wrong but Smalling has been terrific for for United, but I feel Vermaelen is better on the ball, he's much more tenacious and can read danger better.

Fine then, Boyata has more FA cup medals than Vermaelen so is also better.
Point being, it's a flawed argument. You're not stupid enough to not notice that, so I'm guessing you're trolling.

Re: Chris Smalling Vs. Thomas Vermaelen
Vermaelen's certainly not quicker, he's a more aggressive tackler, that's for sure, but Smalling doesn't need to make a lot of tackles because he reads the game better and makes more interceptions, putting out fires before they start. He's a lot like Rio Ferdinand in that respect. The Bat-Man wrote:Vermaelen is quicker, better in the air, fantastic striker of the ball and is balls to the way in terms of tackling.

It's not a flawed argument, it's just not a conclusive one. If someone said, for example 'Vermaelen is a better tackler than Smalling', some arsehole could turn round and say 'Yeah and Bramble is a better tackler than Zidane so he is better', it wouldn't be a valid response though. 'Vermaelen is a better tackler than Smalling' is still a valid argument, it's just not overwhelming proof that Vermaelen is better.Zzonked wrote:ResurrectionRooney wrote:Zzonked wrote:The trophies won argument is terrible.
