    Venue: Broadfield Stadium
    Date:
    Friday, 29 July
    Kick-off:
    1945 GMT
    Coverage:
Live coverage on the BBC Sport website

Crawley will check on defender Kyle McFadzean (groin) ahead of the opening game of the new English season.

Captain Pablo Mills is out after ankle surgery, while six players could be handed their debuts.

AFC Wimbledon have injury worries over new captain Jamie Stuart (back) and midfielder Lee Minshull (dead leg).

Defender Mat Mitchel-King (glandular fever) is unavailable while fellow new signings Gareth Gwillim (shoulder) and Charles Ademeno (heel) are doubts.

The two Football League new boys are playing in a preliminary round to allow Championship side Birmingham, the Carling Cup holders, to start in the third round because of their Europa League commitments.

The winners will play Crystal Palace away in the first round on the week commencing 8 August.

Wasn't sure if anyone was going to make a topic for this game tonight so I did one. I'm going to the game myself, cannot wait as it is a historic day for both clubs and Crawley in particular as the programme starts to run a new feature named 'A Fan's View' written by yours truly.
    Cool

Prediction: Crawley 2-0 AFC Wimbledon, Tubbs to get both.

Crawley are on good form as well, don't underestimate the original red devils. Atmosphere is going to be brilliant! BBC will have radio commentary, just go to the match page and it should be listed around kick-off. BBC Surrey or Sussex usually has Crawley. Don't know why no-one would put it on TV, I thought it would make a good opportunity tbh.

Fancy Crawley to get the win tonight.

Crawley have many quality players in the likes of McFadzean, Thomas and Tubbs whilst Wimbledon appear very light up front after the departure of Kedwell.

It's all about which sides clicks together tonight. If Crawley's new signings struggle to settle down straight away then AFC Wimbledon have every chance of causing a surprise. But in the end I expect Crawley's quality to shine through.

    Prediction: Crawley 2-1 AFC Wimbledon

Yeah, it is quite rare but i believe it is something to do with a relegated Premiership team being entered into Europe.

    I'll have a look Smile

    Here we are.

This season's Carling Cup will feature a preliminary round for the first time since 2002/03 following Birmingham City's relegation to the npower Championship.

With the holders being seeded through to Round 3, courtesy of their participation in the Europa League, the competition format will require one less club in the first round draw.

In line with previous seasons, the preliminary round will feature the two clubs placed lowest in the domestic league system last season. Therefore, following a draw to determine home advantage, Crawley Town will host AFC Wimbledon on Friday, July 29 (kick-off 19.45) for a place in Round One of this season's competition..

Yeah it is harsh, but given the circumstances i think it's the fairest way of doing things.

Feel sorry for the fans though as when you get promotion to the Football League participation in things like the Carling Cup are occasions you look forward to, but they only got to play their old Conference rivals Laughing

Congratulations to AFC Wimbledon for being the second football league club in history not to reach the League cup first round.
Only Bristol Rovers have achieved that landmark before so Wimbledon must be very proud of themselves Smile

Back from the game and it was enjoyable, credit to the wombles fans (of which their end was full), some of their chants were quality. Laughing I know neutrals were hoping for Wimbledon to go back to Selhurst but we earned it and deserved it on the night. Hope Akpan, Sergio 'he's here, he's there, he's every fucking where!' Torres and Matty Tubbs were the scorers for Crawley. Luke Moore scored AFC's first, not sure who scored their second though. scratch Hope got sent off for a second booking but didn't see the offense myself and many around me seemed to think it was never a booking.
