Yeah, so happy when I heard we were signing Bent, quality player, and for 18-24 million, he easily kept us in the league. No one can say he's shit. Hes a striker, he scores goals and is only behind the all top scorers behind, Rooney and Drogba - in the last 5 years that is.

Obviously only good stuff
What's your opinion on McLeish joining Villa by the way? I reckon if he loses a couple of the first few fixtures he will be a dead man walking, especially as those games are 'winnable'.

Re: Official Aston Villa Thread
I think anything more than a draw at Fulham away is a bonus, so we shouldnt be based on that, but if we lose Blackburn at Home. The fans will go mental - we always do well against Blackburn so yeah they are winnable.
When I first saw that he resigned and was linked with us I was worried, if Im honest. But now he's here. He's replaced a quality keeper with another quality keeper, and hopefully Ireland, Dunne, and Warnock will flourish under him so thats 2/3 basically new signings and with the addition of N'Zogbia we should set our sights on 7th-9th and a good cup run, or cup win.

Well what are Villa waiting for? That's a bargain.

I know. 20 mil for Downing, then 10 mil for N'Zogbia that really is a steal if I'm honest

That's the good stuff.
You lot should hurry up and buy N'Zogbia.

Highlights from Walsall v Aston Villa.
Aston Villa came out 3-1 winners on the night with 2 goals from Bent and 1 from "The Mighty Emile"
Albrighton apparently looked sharp along with Ireland who looked as if he gave a shit, but he went off with a tight hamstring but should be fine. Given played the first half and didn't concede so things are looking good. McLeish was happy with the team performance and it was a deserved win for the boys in Claret and Blue.

I remember the days when we were close to signing N'Zogbia I reckon he will be a great signing for you to be honest and so to will Given. Im actually looking at some of your potential signings and getting worried.
Would have been great if we were still in the Prem, the derby games would be unrealnow that McLeish has joined you guys.

To be fair, if you were still in the prem, I doubt McLeish would have joined Villa

There were small rumours that he might walk as he wouldnt have been given money to spend this summer but i dunno. I gotta say though even if we did get relegated joining our most hated rivals is unthinkable...and he did it

Ahhh I hope that we draw you lot in a cup, would be a great atmosphere, all the Villa fans chanting McLeish's name to wind you all up - would be hilarious!
Yeah N'Zogbia would be a great bit of business as will Given, Warnock and Ireland are like two new signings considering they barely played last year, add someone like Dann, Parker or Shaun Wright Phillips into the mix, and it should be a good season.

& then Zigic scores the winner in the last minute.....
I reckon those players would do well although i can't see us selling Scott Dann to you, that would make things even more crazier between us.

Yeah I doubt you'd sell to us although he'd be a great signing for us.

Ex Villa Player Nigel Reo Coker, is apparently in talks with Bolton according to Sky Sources.

An Article on The Sun reads:
CHARLES N'ZOGBIA did not travel on Wigan's tour to Austria last night as Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish urged his board to get a deal done.
The French winger refuted claims he has - or will - go on strike to force a £9million move.
Wigan say the player is being rested ahead of a long season which culminates in the European Championships.
But his absence will increase speculation he is on the move - especially as he has been training with the first-team squad. N'Zogbia said: "Me, to strike? Not at all. Come see me at Wigan, you will see that I train every day.
"There was an offer from Aston Villa which Wigan refused. I was not offered an extension at the club.
"It's been 2½ years that I have played there. I think I have given enough."
Villa will not budge on their original offer of £9m - the fee which N'Zogbia and his representatives were told was Wigan's asking price.
But Latics chairman Dave Whelan now says the price is £10m.
N'Zogbia, who could leave for free next summer, added: "If they want any more it is for the club to decide.
"This is not for me to demand a transfer."
Villa boss McLeish saw his first team beat Walsall 3-1 on Thursday. But the need for numbers was obvious as the squad jetting off to Hong Kong this weekend looked wafer thin.
And their cause has not been helped by midfielder Stephen Ireland picking up a hamstring injury against the Saddlers.
Emile Heskey played wide on the left in a position that will be N'Zogbia's if and when the deal gets done.
Asked about the move for N'Zogbia, McLeish said: "We'll keep working. It is imperative we get a quality player in to replace Stewart Downing."
If McLeish does get his man, Latics boss Martinez may look to Newcastle's Wayne Routledge as a £2.5m replacement

Aston Villa have 9.5 Million Pound bid accepted by Wigan for winger Charles N'Zogbia. I would say his medical will be tomorrow or Wednesday when they agree personal terms.

Re: Official Aston Villa Thread
N'Zogbia could be having his Aston Villa medical tomorrow after reports that he is flying into Birmingham from his holiday.
Aston Villa beat Blackburn 1-0 in the Asia Cup in Hong Kong this morning, a nice bit of holding of the ball from Heskey, passed to Barry Bannan who whipped in an inviting ball in to which Darren Bent flicked on into the goal. Villa looked defensively organised after a personal training session, the defence, and McLeish.

Villa are going to do great this season imo, if Lambert brings in the right players and gets rid of the useless twats than I can see Villa finishing about 9th.
