Do clubs have to disclose details of player contracts?

And is it possible to put something in the contract to stop players themselves revealing the details?


Just wondering really. Must be annoying for clubs to have their players heads turned when they have a year left on the deal and then be forced to sell them for a cut down price or keep them and lose them for nothing in return. Would be sorted if contract details could be kept quiet.

No, Arsenal don't disclose any contract details. It doesn't matter though, the player will obviously know, so will his legal team, and they'll tell the details to any interested parties.

That's why I asked if this could be put in a contract to stop them doing that.

Confidentiality clauses are enforceable in England. The problem is proving the player breached.

It's impossible, how would you enforce it? You can't monitor a player's legal team 24/7, you can't stop them from hinting that a player has a certain amount of time left on his contract.

It's very difficult, but not impossible if the player is an idiot. If the player is smart, like you said, he could drop hints and probably get away with it. To enforce it, you would need a blatant express conveyance of confidential information and it would have to be recorded, written or have a witness who is willing to testify in court about it. So any player who is not a total retard (read: any non Liverpool player*) could easily get away with it.

As long as nothing official is said then it wouldn't matter too much. The club could just not comment on every rumour and no one would actually have an idea.

I don't know but I feel like that violates some sort of rule regarding contracts. You can probably tell a player not to go out stating clauses and incentives to some random journalist but his PR people, agent, accountant, etc. need to know this stuff.
