Whatever, I really don't care about this enough to carry on.
Though, my money is on Modric coming out the winner in this.

His security doesn't come from a 6 year contract, his security comes from being an exceptional footballer. If I was in his position I would certainly have turned down a 6 year contract at Spurs, doing that kills off all of his options, all of his bargaining power.
There are plenty of players who have shown that they don't have the power, Ronaldo was desperate to leave United for years and couldn't, Barry the same at Aston Villa, Tevez wanted to leave Manchester City in January, Fabregas has been trying to escape Arsenal for years and has been forced to stay. Sure they eventually get their moves, but that's more to do with their contract coming to an end, Levy could keep hold of Modric for 2 or 3 years and still get a transfer fee out of him, Modric knows that so he's not going to go on strike or anything like that. If he does leave it'll be for a big fee.
If he walks up to Levy and says "I'm going to fulfill the minimum of my contract, by turning up to training and playing, but I'm going to be shit. I'll score own goals and pass to the other team." He'll get a move. If he strops around at training, calls 'Arry a cunt, and swears at the other players, he'll get a move.
There's plenty of ways he can force it, it's up to him how much he wants it.
He can't fucking do that! For a start he would destroy his reputation, no-one would want to sign a sulky twat like that. More importantly though, he would be intentionally destroying his own transfer value, Tottenham would rightly sue the shit out of him for his value like Chelsea did over Mutu. If it was that easy to force a move no-one would ever pay a transfer fee, they'd just tell players to fuck over their clubs and walk about for free, and the clubs would get rid of them so they don't have to pay their wages.
Those were extreme examples. Like I said, there's many ways he can do it.
But don't talk shite about suing. Mutu was on coke, not stropping around the training ground .
If Modric refuses to do his utmost then he would almost certainly be in breach of his contract.

There is no definitive way to measure if someone is doing their utmost. Well, no way which would hold up in court. All he has to say is, "I'm trying my hardest" and no one can prove him wrong.

If he plays like shit for a season or two, or doesn't play at all, no-one is going to want to sign him.

My final post in this thread for the time being.
Imo, it won't get that far. Modric is at his peak value for Tottenham atm. If Levy has any indication that Modric is going to throw a strop, he will sell. He's a businessman. With 'Arry in charge he knows he has to be careful with money and won't want Modric's value to drop.
I think all those players you mentioned earlier came to an agreement with the manager to stay for the time being. Maybe Modric will do the same and say, "Ok I'll stay one more year and if we're not in the CL next year I'm gone." But if he's had enough and wants out now, I think he'll get it.
That's it, I'm outy.

Edit: Also a lot of the quotes seem to be have twisted, read in on ESPN earlier.
