Technical, Mental attributes are largely just bollocks made up by the media to explain results.

You do realise this is in the FM section?

As for my answer, mental. Players with low concentrating, determination, work rate... Don't make it.

Great Mental Attributes guarantee great consistent results on the pitch.

There are only a few really important mental attributes, whereas just about every technical attribute is crucial.

Really? For a centre back I look at heading, marking and tackling from the technical attributes.
But when it comes to the mental side, I want bravery, anticipation, concentration, determination, composure etc.

Any player with great technical stats would not be as effective with poor mental stats.

Heading, Marking and tackling are technical attributes, not mental.

Well for me, yeah. I've always done it that way and not had any problems yet. Defenders, I look for Concentration and Positioning. That's it. Anticipation and Decisions sometimes cross my mind but I wouldn't place much emphasis on it.

Mental attributes are overrated imo. It's important for mid fielders but again, only a few of them are crucial.

Positioning, Determination, Concentration, Decisions, Composure, Bravery and Aggression are all important for a defender.

They are, but the ones in bold are not vital. You can have them at 11/12 and it wouldn't matter.

True aside from Composure, which IMO should be higher because it effects every thing every player does every where on the pitch.

Though I avoid defenders that significantly lack in any of these attributes. I had a defender regen with like 18 tackling/marking/heading/jumping/positioning but 2 aggression and 3 bravery. The guy seemed like he never made a tackle whole game. Neutral

I had a similar player like that, had like 7 aggression, his strength was pretty shit too but not that bad, around 11 I think it was. Stuck him on Limited Defender settings and he beasted it.

Meh.. I always have my defenders get involved in games.. I like ball playing defenders so I typically aim for lots of good stats.

I would rather have 14/15's right across all stats than unevenly distributed 17/10's.

Mainly depends on what position your looking for, and what role you want him to play in.
