Zamalek were talking so much shit when they were sitting at the top of the table. They were in denial the whole time until we tied with them last week. Such a sweet and in your face victory!

Ahly Claim 7th Consecutive League Title
Guest- Guest
With one round of matches left in the league, Ahly claimed their 7th consecutive league title with an emphatic 5-1 thumping of Arab Contractors. Second place, Zamalek, ended up grabbing a late equalizer in their match, but it was already too late. This was one of the most valuable league title for Ahly over the past 7 years. Midway through the league, Zamalek were 9 points ahead of third place Ahly. Under new coach, Manuel Jose, Ahly managed 11 wins and 5 draws as they climbed up 7 points ahead of second place, Zamalek, with one match left in the league.

How entertaining could it be to follow Ahly in the league when the only serious club they ever play is Zamalek?
The other teams are basically company advertisement campaigns...

Kinda, except I was exaggerating, unlike the SPL, clubs like Ismaily, Al-Masri and Il-Shittihad or whatever the fuck they are called can compete with the top two.Bogdan wrote:So the league is like the African version of the SPL?

Yeah, it's quite clear that they're competing with a club that's won seven straight titles.polska. wrote:Kinda, except I was exaggerating, unlike the SPL, clubs like Ismaily, Al-Masri and Il-Shittihad or whatever the fuck they are called can compete with the top two.Bogdan wrote:So the league is like the African version of the SPL?

There are quite a few good teams in the league. Despite the fact that Ahly win it every season, there a lot of good teams and they give Ahly a tough time. Zamalek and Ismaily are always competing for second place. Then you usually have 5-6 clubs competing for 4th - 6th like Petrojet, ENPPI, Shorta, Masry, Gaish, and Ittihad. However, Ittihad had a bad season this year and got relegated. Historically, Ittihad is considered the 4th best club in Egypt. Ismaily is like the Arsenal of Egypt. They are fighting for the league title most of the season and then screw up in the last 10 matches.
The following is an overall table from the past 7 seasons. The numbers in the parenthesis represent the standard deviation. A small standard deviation means that team was more consistent in it's league position. The teams in bold have never finished in the same position two seasons in a row...
- Al Ahly (0)
- Ismaily (0.82)
- Zamalek (1.89)
- Haras El Hodood (1.6)
- ENPPI (2.57)
- El Geish (2.81)
- Al Masry (2.12)
- Petrojet (5.79)
- Al Ittihad (2.37)
- Ghazl El Mehalla (3.85)
- Shorta (6.28)
- Arab Contractors (3.65)
- Suez Cement (4.72)
- Tersana (2.57)
- Military Production (3.83)
- Gouna (3.29)
- Asmant Asyut (2.7)
- Masr Makasa (4.16)
- Asyut Petrol (1.53)
- Aluminium (1.73)
- Etisalat (1.73)
- Baladiyyat Al-Mehalla (1.91)
- Mansoura (1.25)
- Wadi Degla (1.89)
- Koroum (1.13)
- Tanta (1.13)
- Olympi (0.49)
- Smouha (0.76)

Strange thing is no one is parading the streets over here, most of the Egyptians must have went back home.
