windows 3.1!

just got off a 7 hour long work-related call with a client.

who's using WINDOWS 3.1! (and a dialup ISP, and 5.25" floppy disks)

an OS i honestly had no knowledge about. the first OS i ever used when i was a kid was win95. anyone here have any experience with 3.1? if you do, i feel so sorry for you... after 7 hours, i got to learn how shitty win3.1 was:
- no mouse, no mouse cursor
- no copy/paste (unless you goto DOS mode)
- no start menu
- no file sharing
- no keyboard shortcuts
- no remote access

but in the end, i just told them to buy a new workstation from us with win7 preloaded. cant believe they used windows 3.1 and our software for 20 or so years without any problems.... it's probably because they couldn't go online on win3.1 and watch all that pr0n

they still have minesweeper on win3.1 though... although i have no idea how they can play without a mouse

I think he may have been a really dedicated WUM.

I do actually have (not professional though, but) experience with 3.1 ... It does support mouse, that I remember, but not much else.

from what i read, only serial (rs232) mice work, not ps2 or usb (obviously)

it was our very first client. they don't even pay us anymore, so it's not like they're a VIP client. it's more out of respect because they've been with us for so long

i honestly didn't give a * about them though, or their windows 3.1 crap OS. i've only been at this company for 2 years. but i try to be a professional at work, so i did the best i could for 7 hours

It's still a mouse though. But yes, it's nowhere what we're used to now, even though RS232 mice are still to be found, rarely.

And it's alright, you can swear here - nobody has a problem.

i don't swear... much.... its not my thing. i'd do it out of exclamation, like if a door slams on my face, or if i'm getting pounded on FM/PES. but i try not to other times .

You guys are young. I remember the good old day of Window 3.1. It was the first operating system I used. I remember Windows 95 being a huge step forward.

Was just talking to my Dad about this, he had it, and others before it.
