Muniain Departs

Saints' striker Iker Muniain has left the club today, and joined Inter Milan for a fee of around £14m. The Spaniard, who signed for an undisclosed fee in 2012 made 142 appearances in his five year spell in England, scoring 50 goals.

Manager Jordi Murray admitted it had been difficult to let Muniain leave, but the offer was too good to turn down. Iker also said he'd love to return to the south coast of England for a second stint with the club at sometime in the future.

Pre-Season Review.

After losing Iker Muniain to Inter Milan, Saints manager Jordi Murray had to set about finding a suitable replacement for the Spanish frontman. The favourite for the role was 18 year old Lance Carroll, who was hoping to impress his boss in his first season with the Saints first team. The 6'1 striker bagged two goals in five preseason appearances, with both goals coming against Romanian side Otelul.
One of the other candidates, Sam Friend failed to score in his five appearances.

The Saints kicked off their preseason schedule in the PR of China, playing against feeder club Dalian, with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas scoring the only goal in a narrow 1-0 victory.

Four days later the first team found themselves at the Pittodrie Stadium playing out a bore 0-0 draw with Aberdeen, before hammering Kettering three days later. Lance Carroll bagged his two preseason goals in the next match in Romania, before Saints were handed a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Sevilla in Spain. However they bounced back from this setback to beat Racing Santander and Gimnastic 2-1, and 4-1 respectively.

Manager Murray can now look forward to the opening game against Sunderland, and Champions League football in the season ahead.
