An amatuer Australian footballer was red-carded and marched off the field after refusing to remove a private piercing that only came to light after he was hit in the groin.
The 28-year-old captain of Melbourne's Old Hill Wanderers team was sent off
after collapsing to the ground, and staying there, when he was hit in the
crotch by the ball last Sunday.
"He got hit in the privates and I guess he was just checking to see
everything was still OK down there," an opposition player told the Herald
Sun. "But then the ump's spotted it."
Ordering him to remove the genital piercing, the referee was captured on a
mobile phone video telling the player not to "make it any worse or I
will stop the game".
In footage posted on YouTube and viewed nearly 250,000 times, the
referee is seen marching the player into the changing rooms and emerging
seconds later brandishing a red card.
The player was suspended for at least a week.
The club issued a statement clarifying that "at no point during the
incident did the player of Old Hill Wanderers expose himself to the referee
or to other players on the field.
"Old Hill Wanderers FC is satisfied that the conduct of both the referee
and our player was reasonable, and accepts that the two yellow cards given
to the player were in accordance with the laws of football," it said.
"Old Hill Wanderers FC apologises to VicSoccer and the referee in
question regarding the negative attention that may have been generated by
this unfortunate event."
The statement was published alongside a cheeky match report on the club's
website titled "Old Hill Reserves Triumph despite Cock-Up" which
said the captain had been sent off for "a dangerous tackle".

It seriously does piss me off though when you see some refs on a sunday.
They start thinking they're Howard Webb and start dishing out yellows and reds, when we're only there for a kick about and we have to pay 10-35 quid for every card they give.
Next time I get a wrong card I'm gonna go up to the ref and take whatever I have to pay out of his fee.

Think over all my years of playing, the only people who got anything more was two guys. One was this massive scouse lad who kicked the shit out of someone and the other was this short chubby lad who told the ref he was shit after the game, which apparently isn't allowed.

Yeah it's a joke though. Doesn't matter how small the foul is, it's a tenner for yellows and 35 for reds.
I turned up para last season and started on the ref for some reason, though I didn't do anything it was all verbal, I got a 2 month ban and the club fined £250.
They sent me a letter saying that I could appeal, but I'd have to send a cheque for £75 to have it reviewed.
The whole fucking thing is a scam.
