Netbooks + Free internet secuirty Empty Netbooks + Free internet secuirty

Post by crump Thu May 26, 2011 2:07 am

I'm fucking clueless when it comes to buying computers. Heres the dealio, for my b/day I want a laptop, after some shopping around "Netbooks" caught my eye. Are these things any good? They look proper good and since I'll be be around 1ft - 2ft from the screen an 11" screen will be aight. I plan to use it for: Internet browsing, playing FM and maybe using Microsoft Word for college assignments. Thats pretty much it. Heres my question, do they run slower? Are they slow as fuck running FM? will it make a loud whirling noise or will it run smoothly and a-ok? I guess the internet will be as fast as my PC?

Secondly, where could I get free secuirty form? Also, whats the best notebook to buy for under £200?

    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean netbooks? You won't be playing FM very well on anything you get for under £190 unless you run bare minimum. Internet Browsing and MS Word will be find though, that's basically what they're designed for

As for security, http://free.grisoft.com has always been great for me.

FML, read it as Notebooks yeah.

EDIT: Hmm, bare minmum. If I were to run FM with Lowest league - League 2, and England as the only playable league, how would I go? Would it make a loud noise? i don't see loud noises been made from those things.

Theres another question, if I had up Youtube, this forum, Facebook and MS Word for example, it wouldn't start making a loud whirling noise would it?

Well yeah they do run slower, the sound of the fan will depend on the model you get, but I'd imagine it'd be very quiet with most. The internet will be as fast as your PC, or very similar at least.

Don't get a notebook if you want to play FM.

    Edit:

You're not going to get a Laptop/Net/Notebook under £200 that will be able to run FM.
Internet browsing shouldn't be a problem, Microsoft Word shouldn't really be a problem, but if you wan't to play FM then you need something with good specs.

£200 - £220. I realise it may be poor to play FM on, but in what aspect? Slow loading? Not bothered about the noise tbh as I watch tv or play xbox whenever I'm playing FM. I'm not a "religious" FM player either, so it's not life of death.
What makes are good for netbooks?

Sorry for the 21 questions, just it's better to know than have my finger up my arse when i get one, cheers lads.

What's the maximum price you are willing to pay?

A proper laptop isn't going to run FM much better if it's in the same price range as a Netbook, to be fair.

It'll be slow to load yeah, take longer processing results and such. It won't be loud.

Don't know what makes are good, probably just the ones you have heard of. You get a year to send it back if it's faulty anyway so long as you're buying in the UK.

Cheers guys, I'll probably go in for the Netbook, so you're saying a laptop would be pretty much the same as a Netbook for running FM? Unless you're willing to spend £350+? I'm not that fussed, just questioned FM. I'll get a Netbook then chaps, cheers for the advice. Loading times won't bother me that much anyway. Cheers lads.

Nah, I ain't desperate, I'm fine with just Internet and Word. Thats all it is really, FM was just an added thing. Don't want to spend £150 more just to play FM on.

Ahh fair enough then. Because the minimum requirement to run FM is to have atleast 1.6GHz.
Most notebooks are less than that, the ones that are higher are like £250+
You should be fine with one under £200 just for Word and the internet.

When you do buy a notebook though, check they have a CD/DVD drive (if you want/need one). Because not all of them have one.

    You should look at this:

It's refurbished but for an i3 that's a pretty good price.

Looks good Royal, but I'd prefer shop brought if you know what I mean? Especially if it's something big. Are there no Netbooks with CD/Drives? Otherwise looks like da E-Masheeeen is on the menu.

It's Argos' eBay store, I'd imagine they have the same return policies on what not. Your loss, that laptop shits all over the eMachines one.

I don't know of any netbooks with optical drives, you'll have to have a look around. It would have to be a pretty decent netbook in order to run FM 11 though.

Chrome OS Netbooks are extremely secure. They in fact run the most secure operating system because it's powered by Chromium.

I'm not sure it would work out with playing FM or Office though. It's perfect if you just plan on browsing all the time though.
