ASSEM Allam insists he has complete confidence in Hull KR chairman Neil Hudgell to spend his money where it's needed most.
As exclusively revealed by the Mail yesterday, Allam has agreed to
plough more than £1m into Rovers in what appears to be an interest-free
loan.
But despite pledging a seven-figure sum, the Hull City owner is
adamant he does not want to have any input into how or where his money
is spent.
Instead, the 70-year-old will trust Hudgell to use it for what he thinks is best for the future of KR.
He told the Mail: "We talked in principle about what they wanted
to do with the money rather than details. The details I leave for Neil.
"I trust Neil as a person and as a major shareholder of the club.
I trust his style of management and he is very passionate about his
rugby and Hull KR. That's good enough for me.
"He is a very trustworthy man who he knows what he is doing, and
he knows better than me, so why should I get involved? I trust what he
is planning to do."
Allam was a special guest of the Robins at Sunday's 46-18 win over Bradford at Craven Park after establishing a friendship with Hudgell over the past year.
They originally met through their involvement at City, where both
were vice-presidents prior to the Allams buying the club last December.
Whilst he is not an avid rugby fan, and the win over the Bulls was
his first attendance at any game, Allam is keen to help the east Hull club develop as a Super League force.
But he says he does not want any return on his money, be that in shares, ownership or even a stand naming after him.
He added: "Neil offered me a very attractive return on the money,
but I declined completely. I don't earn money from sport. I don't like
it. I should not earn money out of sport. My involvement is for no
return whatsoever."
Allam's cash injection comes as he revealed he has received no
approach from any Hull FC directors for financial input into their club.
But the Egyptian entrepreneur believes he is already supporting
the club indirectly through his plans to develop the KC into a sports
village, where Hull could train.
Last week Allam was reported to have a family worth of £287m, according to the Sunday Times Rich List, following the success of Allam Marine.
Basically... He is 70, worth 275m and wants to help sport in Hull. Rugby doesn't need much money so 10 years time we'll be a CL team with Sir Nigel Pearson.
Basically posted this because of the "I don't earn money from sport. I don't like
it. I should not earn money out of sport. My involvement is for no
return whatsoever."
Shame theres not so many of these foreign owners around.
And before anyone says, I know it is rugby but he is the owner of Hull City and it talks about the sport village around our stadium so it is threadworthy in this forum.
