"he only passes sideways" Empty "he only passes sideways"

Post by Guest Thu May 12, 2011 12:47 am

Most annoying phrase in football. Hear it from City fans alot, "oh he is shit he doesn't know how to pass forward", "all he does is pass sideways", "does he not know we are aiming at the goal the other way" "he only passes sideways" 58503 "he only passes sideways" 58503 "he only passes sideways" 58503

Seen other people say stuff like that too.

Why pass it forward if there is no options just to lose the ball? "he only passes sideways" 817687

    Rant over.

PS: Yes a City fan said we should sell Cairney because "he just passes the ball sideways" "he only passes sideways" 634513

Well, you need a midfielder that's going to get you going with forward passes, but I don't watch Cairney so I don't know to what extent it is.

Don't you dislike the way Barcelona play because they keep the ball too much?

Ask Deco and Lampard if Cairney just passes backwards. Or was it Deco and Ballack, I don't remember.

He doesn't just pass sideways, he looks up and sees Matty Fryatt marked and thinks "no point in giving it to the others" and passes it to Rosenior. He plays deep, don't blame him for not passing forwards all the time with the movement and creativity ahead of him. bounce

But yeah, someone wants us to sell our biggest talent in years.

Mainly the speed the play at is what bores me. I don't mind watching teams pass the ball around if it is at a good tempo.

Obviously when it is my team I don't want them to give the ball away when trying passes forward every single time. Wink

i have no complaints over players who pass sideways

its those who predominately pass backwards that piss me off. busquets...

even if he has xavi sideways to him completely unmarked, he'll still pass to pique

As for the thread, I agree. Too many people don't understand the importance of keeping possession, a sideways pass can still be effective. Keeping the tempo up without losing the ball.

That's the thing: it's different when it's your team. You would have a constant hard on if Hull could play ball retention like Barca. You're sig would say "We are Hull City! We don't lose possession."

I honestly doubt it, I don't enjoy watching the way we play right now at home. We seem to think we are Barca passing it around the back 4 four for ages then we change our mind and suddenly hoof it towards the 5ft 10 Fryatt. Neutral

I enjoy watching us away from home though, defend for 90 minutes and win due to a couple of counter attacks. "he only passes sideways" 18254

Players that 'only pass sideways' are generally vital to the team. Look at Mikel, he's basically our metronome.

It's easier to pass sideways, simple as.

If you have good dribbling and passing ability you can get past an opposition or two and make an accurate pass. Some can't do one of those....some can't do either. Almost anyone can pass the ball sideways though.

That doesn't mean passing sideways automatically makes you worse....but it's a lack of attacking ambition.

From what James says about Hull's style of play (defensive), then surely having someone to put their foot on it and keep the ball, and sometimes just slow the tempo of the play when you're under pressure, is a good thing for them?

    Nah.

We play counter attacking football, but we play it in a much more fun way.

Instead of containing the other team, we actually let them past the midfield and then rely on either our defence to make a last ditch tackle or the keeper to make a save. Then we clear it quickly and score.

Exciting stuff. Although sometimes, Bristol City happens, Burnley happens, Millwall happens, Middlesbrough happens. bounce

I don't know, it depends. At home he is because other teams try to do to us what we do to them away from home. So we have to attack teams and his passing comes in handy.

I don't think we'll be this defensive crazy team next year, we don't have the creative midfield yet, we'll walk the league next season.

James, have you saw the quality of the teams with a chance of going down? West Ham, Wigan, Blackpool, Stoke, etc.. are much better than Hull. Add the 3 teams who won't go up through the play-offs who I presume will be Reading, Swansea and Forest, who are all better than you aswell. I can't see you finishing anywhere near the top 6.

    Blackpool?

Wigan would lose their decent players and be left with Championship squad.

Wigans side minus the likes of Rodalegga, Nzogbia is just a Championship side.

Lets face it, Nzogbia has kept them up the past 2 seasons.
