RIP.
I'll try to watch that crash, it seems odd that someone would die from such a crash, while wearing a helmet.

Don't think there is any footage of the crash, but there is a video of blood floating out of his nose...

Thanks. I've found out that he was going downhill at the time, which would have him going at about 70-80 km/h. It was also described as being a technically difficult place, and if there had been small rocks on the road surface, he might have crashed from that.
With the information you've given me, I still find one thing odd:
How did the helmet not take any of the impact. Cycling hemlets are made to break on such impacts, leaving the owner's head intact, yet they had to cut open his helmet.

We'll as more and more reports have come out saying that those light helmets are not enough protection unless you just fall over, it really only is protecting the pro riders when there are crashes in the "peleton". I see more and more people every day wearing helmets here but a lot of them are typical skating helmets rather than the regular light "cheaper" ones. You don't always think about the risks professional sports people take, but even race drivers say that you have to be made of a special type of crazy to go down mountains at those speeds while only wearing a small helmet and skin tight clothes. (Fabian Cancellara has gone 120 km/h)
I haven't been watching but i know the feeling i got when i saw Jens Voigt crashing in tour de France, i can't even imagine how it would be seeing this and the hearing that he didn't make it. It's a risk they take doing their sport and times like these i can't help but think that it is not worth the risk.
RIP to him and thoughts are with his family, friends and team mates at Leopard Trek

Watching this live has got to be one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen despite it only being shown for about 3 seconds.
