i dont really understand what he meant about luiz being too square? when youre too square as a defender its supposed to be when you give up your position when your on the inside route of the defender where terry was and you positionally do not give yourself a chance to recover. whereas luiz was marking him and just made an honest challenge that didnt come off.

hernandez split the 2 central defenders and took the inside route of luiz which it is then terrys responsibility to recover but he seemed very unprepared

if a player is supposed to be blamed then it should be terry as hernandez luiz as the right sided defender is not obliged to stay on the inside of him or else he would be woefully out of position

and anyway the goal was completely mikels + essiens fault, they were both out of position especially mikel who was basically standing next to drogba while this all unfolded.

its just weird that these highly paid pundits arent giving us the tactical nous and outlook on the game that they should be, so far this match man united have been brilliant and far better than chelsea but rather than break things down for us burley has just been prepping up his scottish countryman in ferguson all game so far

bring back efan ekoku or even dean sturridge for these games!!! i find them to be the most insightful, intelligent and unbias co commentators that do premier league games

I didnt think it was on Luiz either, probably could've done better, but he was the last line of defense and took a risk. Agreed that Ekoku is probably the best color man in England right now.

He was in the process of turning (he was facing the wrong way), and at the point where Park passes it, Luiz is facing him, not Hernandez. That's what he means by too square.
The onus usually would be on the other defender (Terry) to cover but he'd stepped up to play offside, whereas Luiz hadn't. It's both of them that are at fault.

im think whoever was midfielder is mostly fault since they did not close down the ball and was complete out of position but also luiz did most things correct, in a 2 x 1 situation you must keep the striker in between the 2 defenders at the worst. if luiz is exhert himself to much in a lunge attempt which is only normal then is definite terry responsibilty to take over since he is on the correct side of hernandez but he was to clumsy with his footing.

it is difficult to see what any other defender would do in luiz situation, it was designed to exploit at least 1 of the defenders. see in past chelsea would of had terry in that situation of luiz, and carvalho would of cleaned up but terry cannot assume that role as he lacks the ability of the portuguese beasterer

I do agree with that - I'm putting the lack of communication/understanding between the two of them at fault since Terry wanted to play offside and Luiz obviously didn't. Of course how Man Utd got through the midfield of Chelsea quite so easily can be questioned. In fact it's just bad defending by the team as a whole rather than attributing it to one player.

Terry was far back enough..if Luiz had held the line Terry had then Hernandez would've been offside.
