There’s more to keeping then stopping
Well today Gomes made possibly one of the biggest mistakes in our history, allowing the ball to roll write under his legs and not go over the line but I don’t want to talk about that. The way Gomes keeps isn’t the best if you actually watch him and you can understand why he always struggles with long shots.
He stops the ball before he ever picks it up, you’ll rarely see Gomes catch a ball, he is always palming it away when it is in the air or stopping it BEFORE he picks it up. And this is one of his mistakes.
When a shot is taken from long range, and it is driven low the way he bends to pick it up, then the stopping don’t mix at all as you will see when you see the replay. He goes to stop the ball first thinking it will be comfortable I mean why not he’s done it plenty of times before, but on this occasion whether it was the power of the shot, the placing of the hands it has rolled through his hands.
Now as a keeper myself I’ve learned all this and something my keeper coach (Who once had a trial at Spurs coincidently) taught me was to have the leg as back up, so if it slips through down low you’ll have the leg to stop it, but the way Gomes bends, is on his knees allowing a free space for the ball to roll through.
But that is just what I’ve picked up, and to be honest the ball didn’t cross the line that is a story for another day.
You’re just a want to be Terry
“Dawson’s just a want to be Terry.” I once had this line shouted at me by my Chelsea supporting brother (who is not here tonight thankfully). But from what I’ve seen tonight from both of these centre backs Dawson is on top.
I don’t want to sound biased but the sheer actually defending from Dawson tonight was amazing never afraid to jump in, whether that is a tackle, a block, a header or anything at all, Dawson is always there. But Terry seemed quite, that could just be me watching Spurs more closely but he was quite, yeah sure he did his job, but he didn’t showcase what he really is.
I know I can’t judge from one night, but if Dawson is a want to be Terry then Dawson is taking a step down.
That Spot is Mine.
Younes Kaboul, in three games has cemented his spot in the Tottenham Hotspur side but not at his favoured position. And in turn we say goodbye to a favourite of mine Vedran Corluka.
Ever since the North London derby, Kaboul has been the right back, with Charlie looking well out of place in that game been ripped to shreds in ever aspect. Kaboul came in and steady the ship in that position on the field. And he has kept that form throughout those three games.
Am I watching Woodgate?
This is a question I pondered watching Charlie in this game. I mean I absolute love Woodgate, he is my favourite player of all time, but watching this game I felt like I was seeing him play again at RB, and not his good side, his Real Madrid side.
Ok Charlie didn’t make those mistakes Woody did at Real, but he still looks dodgy, somethings happened to my Charlie, and we need him back.
Sandro, no longer a Defensive Midfielder
This was something else I strongly noticed throughout the match, Sandro should no longer be played as a Defensive Midfielder.
Sandro he played his part throughout this whole game, defensively and for what seemed like a short time attacking. And we were more of a threat, we seemed more confident, we seemed like a winning side with Sandro attacking. But he sadly was moved back for understandable reasons but Mr. Sandro should no longer be played as a defensive midfielder.
And on the note of his shot, he has it in him, not just in this game, but his shot against Arsenal should have gone in with that power as well.
Modder the complete midfielder
I don’t want to say much about Modders, but he seemed faultless, did every aspect of the game perfectly. That is all I’ll say.
We need you Bale
A little too much Bale. The recent winner of the PFA Player of the Year award is now in charge of too much, whether that is a choice by him as a player, or a choice by Harry, he needs to rest, he’s tired.
One thing I don’t know if everyone else noticed but through out the game Bale floated right across the field. When Pav was on he would float centrally, when Defoe was on he would float to the right.
Now I know this might be tactical, due to Chelseas RB (Can’t be bother to spell his name) being so physical in stoping Bale but this was too much.
During the time Pav was on they would switch, Bale becoming somewhat of a make shift striker, I mean I know we need goals but I just don’t feel Bale is a option for striker.
Now during the time Defoe was on, he was on the right with Lennon, leaving the left flank exposed.
Bale you’re our left winger, stay that way, the team performs better that way.
There’s more I want to say but I’ll leave it with this, our Champions League dream dies at the hands of two non-existent goals.
Tonight was the night our Champions League dream died as much as I hate to say it. If City win tomorrow the gap is too big, if Liverpool win tomorrow we go 6th. And this is the end of the line for our season and I hate to say it. But what gets to me, and I’m sure gets to you is that it died at the hands of two goals that should have not stood.
The first went through Gomes as already covered, but NEVER crossed that line. The second it was simple I saw it first time in the god damn replays KALOU WAS OFFSIDE. And this pisses me off, but I can’t do anything to change it, now we have to wait and see, that’s all we can do, wait and see.
Thank you for reading if you did read this I know it was long but it had to be written.
