MADRID -- Soccer players are renowned for stretching rules to gain an advantage. Now the ball boys are getting in on the act.

Sevilla's 3-2 victory over Villarreal on Sunday was marred by the latest example of what seems to be a growing trend in the Spanish league -- extra balls thrown onto the field to stop play.

A video replay clearly shows a ball boy tossing another ball onto the field as Villarreal pushed upfield late in the game. Another ball is heaved onto the field from the seats above Villarreal's goal.

There were similar incidents during Real Madrid's visit to Osasuna in January, and relegation-threatened Zaragoza employed the tactic in a victory over Getafe last month.

The offending clubs were fined a paltry $877.
Only $877? Get real now! Laughing

Just another reason why there should be a definitive clock that stops after goals, out of bounds, subs, twats throwing a ball onto the pitch, etc.

That isn't the problem in this case. If the ball is thrown on the pitch the game has to be stopped and then their will be a drop ball but the other team will have got numbers back.

I think they throw the balls on the pitch whenever the away team gets a good attack going on and stopping the clock will not necessarily recreate that chance to score. The solution here if found as being on purpose should be point deductions or maybe even a penalty.

Liverpool once tried this to try and hang onto a 0-0 draw at Sunderland.

What if a fan pretends to support their rival team and gets them a points deduction?

That's fair, hard to see how teams can be punished severely though.

Hate when that happens. It happened in an Egyptian Premier League game 2 years ago. Should be fined a lot more and the ball boy should be striped from his duties for ever.

It's just because I know that if they implement clock stoppages, there's a good chance that commercial breaks won't be far behind, which will provide opportunities to make it the fridge to stuff my fat Yank face.

I know Billy tells our ball boys to slow down a bit as much as possible when we're winning say 1-0 or 2-1 and it's near the end of the game Laughing
