Wonder what Egzon would say. Both are Madrid rejects.
Anyway, Sneidjer by a mile. Still think VDV is class though.

I love VDV and hate that he signed for Spurs, but Sneijder is a better player.

I won't lie, I'm happy we have VDV and think he's great but I do honestly believe Wesley is the better player.

Re: VDV or Sneijder?
Serious question JK, but by dutchies do you mean the vast majority? Because I've spoke to a few dutch people and every one of them rates Sneijder higher.
Then you factor in the fact that VDV doesn't get near the starting 11 of the national team and I'm confused as to why you think it.
Anyway, I think both are massively overrated but Sneijder is easily superior.

Sneijder is criminally overrated because he had an amazing year last time out. Still better than Van der Vaart though.

Yep, the vast majority of Holland rates VDV higher. I can imagine that most people like VDV more because of his attitude and personality. He's just more adult.
What do you mean with VDV not having a starting spot in the first 11 of the NT? You mean during the WC? Remember he was playing for Real Madrid at that time and Sneijder was having his best season ever at Inter. Sneijder just had to start, of course. You could see Bert was trying to get VDV into the starting 11 by putting him on the wing, but that just didn't work. Now he often plays a deep-lying playmaker role next to De Jong or Van Bommel and I think that will remain as so, as he's doing a terrific job in that role.

Yeah I mean during the world cup. You say he's versatile yet he can't adapt to playing wide midfield?

I've always preferred VDV, so it has to be VDV.

I like both of them as player so i'd rather have them both in 4-2-2-2.

Rated Sneijder higher for some time. Not only for his ability but his determination to win and always wanting to be involved. VDV goes missing too much for my liking.

He was played as a winger, not wide midfield. We play a 4-3-3 system. He doesn't have the agility to play as winger.
I said he was more versatile than Sneijder. Sneijder is a central attacking midfielder, that's it. VDV is able to play as deep-lying playmaker because he gets stuck in and tracks back while Sneijder just stops and starts complaining towards other players or officials.
Don't understand me wrong, Sneijder plays an attacking role and doesn't need to track back as normal central midfielder should do, but it's his attitude that annoys people in Holland.

Do you actually rate Sneijder as being less talented though? You seem to suggest you think Sneijder plays better but you like VDV better...

Re: VDV or Sneijder?
Exactly, you don't prefer him as a footballer, you prefer him as a person. That's two different things all together and it's unfair to knock down Sneijder's footballing ability because he's 'annoying'.Fine Shagger wrote:JK wrote:Fine Shagger wrote:JK wrote:Fine Shagger wrote:Serious question JK, but by dutchies do you mean the vast majority? Re: VDV or Sneijder?
of course vdv is very popular in holland he is most market dutch footballer of current times. he is a media darling, with a great wonderful wife and always makign contribution to dutch community and mr charity man. im not say that hes not a good player because vdv is quite an animal but he is not a beast like sneijder who while is also respect in holland he does not have same fanfare like vdv and in fact he is sometimes seen as arrogance
also vdv was better then sneijder when they both played in holland adn is not like people would forget this in holland
but in end, vdv good player, but sneijder was arguably best player in entire world last season. i think is a big difference

I tried to explain why most people in Holland like VDV better than Sneijder.
However, even ability wise, VDV has my preference. Gets more stuck in, tracks back, is technically more gifted than Sneijder and is more versatile. Sneijder is quicker and has a great shot, but he's not the teamplayer VDV is. Both good passers, both excellent vision. I think Sneijder only fits teams in which he doesn't need to track back. Wouldn't suit the EPL, as example.
It's all personal preference though, I guess, although most of you prefer Sneijder.
