Can't we have a serious topic on this forum?
2 class managers, both manager 2 great rivals
I want a good structured argument as to who you think is better

Re: Shankly or Fergie? Who's better?
Sir Alex Ferguson. He built his team(s) up. Shankly had a lot of work done for him form Paisley. Both good managers for what they have achieved, but Ferguson gets it for me.

Re: Shankly or Fergie? Who's better?
For silverware = Ferguson.
But Shankly's work was a lot more impressive.
Ferguson went to a club in the top division hoping to be at the top or thereabouts, with the sudden influx of cash from SKY just forming and turned them into top division winners.
Shankly took a club that was in a fucking state from the second division and turned them into first division champions. This in a time where the playing field was a lot more even, makes it even more incredible.
Perhaps a closer comparison would be Paisley v Fergie, but then when you compare their trophy:time in the game ratio, Ferguson gets blown out of the water.

Rumour has it that when Man United came to Hereford in the FA cup back in 1990 he was on the brink of being sacked but he went on to beat us and subsequently won the FA Cup that year IIRC
Blackmore scored a goal late on for Man United.

Weren't it the semi-final where they scored a late goal or something to go through, and if they hadn't they'd have sacked him?

Considering what Ferguson did with not only MU but Aberdeen as well, I'm inclined to say him.

Re: Shankly or Fergie? Who's better?
Looking at just silverware and not things such as legacy left to the club etc. then Ferguson is the better manager.
