Fury out of the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League
Tuesday, 1 March 2011
Football Federation Australia
announced today that North Queensland Fury will not be participating in
the 2011/12 Hyundai A-League. The decision was determined after
considering the financial position of the club for season 2011/12 as too
big of a financial risk for FFA to undertake.Unfortunately, a sufficient amount of capital could not be raised to minimize the financial exposure to FFA.In
making the announcement FFA CEO Ben Buckley acknowledged the work of
the Fury CEO Rabieh Krayem and members of the Advisory Board.“Despite
the hard work put in, the target of $1.5m of capital from the Retain
the Fury campaign was not met, with less than $300,000 being pledged,”
said Mr Buckley.‘Whilst the Club and the advisory board had
attracted some very encouraging sponsorship commitments, the projected
loss to run the Club next season is still in our assessment in excess of
$2m.“FFA had been looking for capital from the campaign to set
the foundations for a move to local ownership and a long term future for
the Club.“However with the capital-raising falling well short of
the target, FFA has had to make the hard decision that it cannot
continue to own and finance the Club in these circumstances.”Mr
Buckley said the FFA had a responsibility to all clubs in the Hyundai
A-League and funding Fury in excess of $2m reduced the capacity to
invest in the A-League as a whole.“We need to concentrate our
resources on the growth, promotion and stability of the entire Hyundai
A-League competition and this level of investment would prevent us from
undertaking programs to achieve the above,” Mr Buckley said.“Many
leagues around the world have adjusted the composition of clubs in
early years and we feel this move will strengthen the Hyundai A-League
just as it did for Major League Soccer in the United States and the
J-League in Japan.“We acknowledge the region is an important
development area for football and there are some fantastic supporters
and FFA remains committed with Football Queensland to nurturing football
in North Queensland.“I would like to thank everybody who
supported the Fury including the fans, staff, players sponsors and the
Fury Advisory Board.”

North Queensland Fury FC Axed
Had a local team for two seasons and then the FFA fuck us over. We had tons of support but it wasn't good enough, could just saved us the suspense and axed bloody 6 months ago when the saga began. Gone back to having no local club again.

Brisbane now your local club, ouch.
But seriously unlucky mate, really thought they should have kept you but if your financial unstable then it's a bit hard to keep you a float really.

It sucks too, we can get about 10k crowds maybe more if were winning and playing good, Townsville deserves a team, GC can barely scrape 4k even when their in the bloody finals, its ridiculous.

Apparently, Krayem was looking to make a deal with a sponser within next week or something, a deal worth $500 000 a year for a couple years I think.

And already had one with $1m, seems weird.

Maybe a glimpse of hope but they said were out of the 2011/2012 season so maybe if we can get it together we can re enter? I don't know.

Yeah, probably enter another club within the area like New Zealand a few years ago.

They dont have relegation/promotion and teams have to bid / pay to enter the league, Like how F1 works

Re: North Queensland Fury FC Axed
Yea theres not enough clubs at the moment for multiple leagues at the top level. I'm not quite sure how the entry process works, I think its like the World Cup where you present your bid for a spot in the league and if its good enough you get a lisense or something and then you get started. Don't take what I said as fact though I could be way off, I've never really paid attention to any of that sort of stuff. Might have to research into that another time.

Fuuuuuck, that sucks! I liked the Fury, always produced good atmosphere. I feel for you mate. Welcome back to Brisbane Roar though I guess Kaka
I'm sure there will be another Townsville team in the future though as the game grows. But for now, you can support Brisbane in the final
I liked NQ, but HATE Gold Coast. Would much rather have them fuck off than NQ. You guys will be back, don't worry.

Yea I'm sure Townsville will get another team eventually, we are the 3rd biggest city in QLD if not the 2nd, GC is a better city but I'm pretty sure we have way more people. Oh well.

Re: North Queensland Fury FC Axed
I was following the Aussie news in Tiki-Taka. Feel sorry for you guys.
Hopefully though you will re-enter in the near future. I am confident this is only just temporary and that the Fury will reenter competition sometime this decade when the finances are there.
And you still have a local club, Fury has not been disbanded.

I'm reading that the Fury intends to play in the local State league for a few seasons until they have the financial support to reenter the A-League again.

Re: North Queensland Fury FC Axed
The funny thing is that the Roar are in $1.5 million of debt and the FFA decide to help Brisbane but turn their back on us, we had sponserships and deals lined up but whats done is done, we'll be back eventually. I'm not sure about it entering the State League because Townsville already has a state league team, I think they might just hang around getting things together and try in two seasons.

What I find idiotic is that the A-League and the FFA are one.
WHO THE FUCK IN THE WORLD CAME UP WITH THAT IDEA? Fucking ridiculous.

Not being a prick here or anything but did the Fury actually have any star players????
The only good player that I can think of is Williams and he was shit every time he played against the Nix

Re: North Queensland Fury FC Axed
Mark Hughes is probably the best centre back in the league, I just hope he goes somewhere and moves up because he is a great player. Cernak and Payne were good until they signed on to other teams, then they had lost motivation to play for us, Killian was good once he was fit, McDonald is a decent young player on th left. Not necessarily star players but they are all good players, the results just didn't come our way.
