The way the rankings work though......Ghana haven't done enough over the last 4 years and only got 1 round further than us in the World Cup........

But we're definitely better than teams like Portugal, Italy and France.

Well I actually always wonder about Ghana's ranking. I know how the FIFA rankings work, which surprises me even more. They have been the second most consistent African team behind Egypt and you could even argue that they are more consistent than Egypt. In 2008, they placed 4th in the African Cup. In 2009, They were the first African nation to qualify to the WC. In 2010, they finished 2nd in the African Cup and went to the quarterfinals in the World Cup. They also have better results in friendlies and qualifiers than Egypt. If Egypt can be 9th in the world, Ghana should be at least 10th.

These rankings are such a joke because friendlies (scrimmages) are counted. Only games that count towards tournaments (ie that matter) should add into the rankings.

But friendlies are given a lower significance than other types of matches. They should a least be considered because nations could go months without matches.

They have been for 3-4 months now. It's mainly due to winning the African Cup of Nations for a third time in a row and generally speaking doing well in friendlies. Over the past year or so we also didn't do that bad in the 2010 WC qualifications. We had a 9 wins, 1 draw , 2 losses record, but unfortunately lost in the crucial final playoff match against Algeria. We also beat Italy in the Confederations Cup. Those all effect our ranking.

Yeah, Ecuador have dropped 14 places for some reason.

We beat Mexico 1-2 in Mexico, then lost against Venezuela, it should equalize out.


Seriously, we are not worse than the teams that I mentioned.

We are almost at our lowest, which was 76th in 1995.

Well then the only explanation is you had some good results from August-September 2006 removed from the calculation of the rankings OR the above teams performed better in friendlies and/or qualifiers. Maybe a mix of the two because I see that Ecuador lost some points as well, which can only be achieved by removing past results that are out of the time range (4 years).
