Lyon are looking to dump Real Madrid out of the UEFA Champions League for the second season in succession.
The French giants met Real at the same stage last year and they proved successful on that occasion as they progressed to the semi-finals.
But Real are a different side this year with Jose Mourinho at the helm of Madrid this time around.
Lyon come into the match with a very impressive record at the Stade Gerland with just one defeat in their last 11 European games at home.
Real will be determined to make it past the last 16, something they have amazingly failed to do for the last six seasons.
Lyon coach Claude Puel admits Madrid do present a different challenge this term, saying: "I don't know if Madrid are stronger than last season.
"They're different, perhaps a bit better balanced thanks to some hard workers in the midfield. Either way they're still a team made up of players of great quality."
Mourinho insists Real will not make the same mistakes which saw them lose to Lyon last year.
"Lyon are a good team, who have experience of this kind of game," he said. "But we are Madrid. We don't have to look at the past or statistics. If we think that both games will be easy, it's going to be difficult for us.
"We have to do well in both games. We know our ability and won't underestimate Lyon."

Re: Lyon V Real Madrid
Real Madrid have lost on their last 3 visits to the Stade Gerland, and I recall in the groups when they've met before Madrid haven't beaten them at home also. 1-1 Carew, 2-2 with Malouda and M.Diarra scoring as well before he joined Real. And what Shagger said, they haven't beaten them in 8 previous games or so.menalawyerguy wrote:19Jones19v wrote:Add a poll please and Lyon will go through again. Lyon are Madrids bogey team in Europe

Re: Lyon V Real Madrid
Interesting facts about the game:
Lyon have won all three of their home encounters with Real Madrid and have drawn all of their away games in Madrid.
In those wins, Real Madrid have not scored a single goal.
Lyon to win 1-0 IMO.
