Former Brazil manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo revealed that legendary striker Ronaldo used to wear diapers during the 1999 Copa America in Paraguay.
Il Fenomeno was forced to do the embarrassing precaution after being given Xenical by the Brazil medical staff to help him lose weight.
“Ronaldo was already overweight, and we explored every possible way of making him drop some pounds,” Luxemburgo said, according to AS of Spain.
“The [team] doctor gave him medicine, Xenical, which was effective, but it also accelerated his bowel movements. So, in order to avoid any “incidents,” the player had to wear diapers, which embarrassed him.”
Despite the discomfort, Ronaldo finished the tournament on top of the scorers’ charts with five goals to lead the Selecao to victory.
The former Real Madrid and Barcelona ace announced his retirement this week, following consistent injury problems.
