Still the best? When were they ever the "best," other than in an odd year here or there?
But even if they were, no. Not even close this year. They blow donkey nuts

I seem to remember the Detroit Red Wings stopping them numerous times, the Dallas Stars stopping them numerous times, and a few others getting in their way a number of times as well.

Re: NHL
They had a couple years where they were the best and managed to sneak a couple Stanley Cups in there. But over the long haul, Detroit Red Wings=4 Cups since '97.

Blackhawks are defending champs, but they stink this year. The Penguins are always in the mix. Vancouver Canucks have the best record but tend to choke in the playoffs. Philly looks sharp. Boston isn't bad and the good ol' Captain of Captains Stevie Yzerman has the Tampa Bay Lightening up there as well. Should be an interesting playoffs.

Re: NHL
Canucks go out in the first round or second since they will be playing teams that have been fighting for their lives for the last half of the season and the 'Nucks have been coasting + injuries to their grit and depth. The western conference has the tightest race for the playoffs that I think I have ever seen.
I hate the wings but I can see them coming out of the west. My sleeper is Anaheim (if they can keep their playoff spot).
In the East, I see Philly going back to the finals ala the Pens when they lost to Det then went back the year after to win the cup. Watch out for NYR if Lundqvist gets hot or Pitt if Crosby comes back and can produce like he did before his concussion.
Should be a very exciting cup season in the NHL

Re: NHL
Biggest issue for the Red Wings is injuries to their keepers. Howard took a knock a few nights ago, Osgood is out indefinitely. As things stand, we'll be going into the playoffs with two keepers who started the season on our AHL roster. But we've had a ton of injuries this season, many to key players like Datsyuk and Franzen, and we're still in 2nd in the West. Not too shabby.

Yea, I'm a Leaf fan. Watched the game on Saturday where Howard got hurt. Too bad really. Any word yet on him? Is he out long term?

Re: NHL
Howard is day-to-day. Had a positive MRI feedback this morning I believe.
The Leafs appear to have improved this year. I don't hate them as much as I used to, back in the days of the Norris. Now we play each other about once every three hundred years. Kinda sucks. I loved the battles we used to have. But since we don't play anymore, I've kinda started liking them a little. Never thought I'd say that.

Glad to hear Howard should be ok.
I miss the rivalry too but for us, playing Montreal 6 times a year has been a treat.
Our team is on the up and up but we still suck atm. That loss on Saturday puts us out now unless we run the table from here on in and Buffalo decides to lose a few times. Good luck on your cup run, it would be nice to see Lidstrom win one more before he walks away for good

Toronto isn't making the play-offs next year either I think. If they do I'll be happy, but they won't xD

Canucks are winning the series. It shall be Boston's job to challenge Vancouver in the final. Canucks are winning the final, though

Re: NHL

Yeah, I would support the Cancuks in the final as I'm half Canadian but not when you guys force overtime off a blatantly wrong call. We play good defense for 19 minutes 47 seconds in the 3rd period and a wrong call in Vancouver's favor creates a chance and tying goal out of thin air.
I'm going for Boston now. I was born in the Greater Toronto Area so I like Kaberle.
