What are your views on the new fair play rules and would you support a possible salary cap like they have in many sports in the U.S. The salary cap has made the NHL, for example, extremely competitive. The difference between the second place team and 10th place team is not more than 10-11 points in either conference.

Definitely. TBH I'm more worried over £35M for Carroll. Torres is worth that much, but Carroll.

Salary cap will never work, to many things to work in different currencies, different leagues/divisions, blah blah. Like the idea of FFP, but you know lawyers of big clubs are figuring out ways to exploit loopholes.

If it's well thought out and done properly across all leagues then I'd favour it. But I doubt they'll do it.

I would assume UEFA would plan it quite a bit before employing it.

Its funny because on Chelsea's books they have about £70M in losses.. but that just means Abramovic has no money to pay tax on. Plus £70M to him is like £10 to a normal person.
I wouldn't mind a salary cap but i would set it at around 150k per week. I wouldn't want every team in the league to be equal in quality, that would suck imo. No upsets, no drama like a West Brom beating Arsenal because they are equal in ability.. it really would suck.

I am in favor of a salary cap. Mostly because rich clubs can be quite some cunts, for example, Chelsea.

Agree but not everyone has the patience to develop 15 year olds.
Just saying.

Can't move the goalposts once the game's started.

Nobody is saying to stop going on about how you do transfers, sure, buy the best talent and whatever, but tapping up and luring players away with ridiculous wages? It's gone quite a bit extreme.Torresxvilla wrote:(polskaGOLA) wrote:I am in favor of a salary cap. Mostly because rich clubs can be quite some cunts, for example, Chelsea.

Why are they worried about this transfer anyway?!
Why not Ronaldo, Kaka and Ibra when all that happened? Racism against the English I tell ya.

Why just target Chelsea then?
Liverpool just bought Carroll for 35M.
How about United/City/Madrid/Barca etc. who have been tapping up players too?

Because of the way it has been done.Zzonked wrote:Why are they worried about this transfer anyway?!

Ronaldo and Kaka left freely. Ibra I don't remember the details but i'm sure he wanted to as well. All 3 clubs in question accepted the offers as well, Liverpool on the other hand were backed into a corner.

Isn't this the biggest for a January transfer though?

If you read that article that isn't what it's about.
One Uefa insider described the willingness to bid £50m for a single player as "a worrying sign".

I dont want any spending/salary caps like American sports. The American sports are so stupid. If you win 60% of your games then you win your league/division. Its really stupid and I really wouldnt want football to be like that

I did read the article, but fair enough, I am not going to argue, although i'd probably imagine that whoever was quoted had what was written in my post in mind.Zzonked wrote:(polskaGOLA) wrote:Because of the way it has been done.Zzonked wrote:Why are they worried about this transfer anyway?!

Actually on second reading I think they were saying it was worrying because Chelsea were seemingly getting ready for the FFP and now they fucked it off. Guess I could have answered my own question.

You're talking about different things here, division records have nothing to do with a salary cap, plus, Alex Fergusons all time win% with United is under 60%.
The main thing is, is a salary cap/floor possible in football, in one country yes, but in Europe? No. FFP is the closest thing to a UEFA wide regulation on spending, it's a decent idea, but I think it's shady. For instance, there is talk that UEFA is willing to bend for teams that show improvement, Chelsea just announced losses of 66 million, if they are accepted into UEFA play with that kind of debt, but lower it the next year to say.. 40 million, is that acceptable? UEFA would have to make this real tight to make it work.

a salary cap would make the game greater for every club....the salary cap is why the NFL is so successful, the parity in the league is unquestionable and every single season, barring two or three teams, every team has a legit shot to make the playoffs...
and how great would it be to see someone like Ronaldo at West Ham or something

Yeah but you cant really compare football records to Basketball or Hockey records because of draws. Hockey and Basketball games are always settled by OT. If football had OT then Im sure Fergies record would be much higher than 60%. What I was really getting at is I dont want salary caps and budget caps introduced. I dont want to see Wigan winning the league because they won 62% of their games or whatever

well then the 2-4 horse races will continue to happen and you have nothing to complain about in regards to teams spending money

I know it may sound weird to some, but I don't want all the teams to be completely equal in the EPL. It takes some of the enjoyment and excitement out. Even with leagues like the Bundesliga you always have some teams fighting for the title and others for relegation. If every team is fighting for the league it just doesn't seem the same.
