Dunno, seems easier to connect with my leg when the ball is in the air. Along the ground if I shoot with my left it ends up getting scuffed.

No but seriously, my first few years playing football I always hit the ball with the out side of my right foot for some reason, it just felt more natural, and as I got older I started kicking the ball normally.
