No he played in 2 friendlies which weren't official fifa matches meaning he could switch nations, his english is shit though, well when i heard him speak he spoke worse than Jerome Boateng

No, he played for the senior German team. But only in friendlies, and under the new rules, he was eligible to switch because he had not played in an official FIFA sponsored game, and he was eligible for the US at the time that he originally played for Germany.
