Hannover pay tribute to Robert Enke by inaugurating street in his name
    City honours deceased goalkeeper

The city of Hannover has named a street in honour of former goalkeeper Robert Enke 14 months after his tragic death.

Robert-Enke-Strasse is located near Hannover's AWD-Arena, where the goalkeeper plied his trade between 2004 and 2009.

On Monday, mayor Stephan Weil said that such an honour rarely occurs so soon after one's passing.

"Enke was an exceptional person who moves us greatly", he said according to the DAPD news agency.

Enke was an international for Germany until his suicide in 2009. The former Barcelona and Benfica shot stopper had long suffered from depression before his death on November 10, 2009, at the age of 32.

Don't agree with them naming a street after him if he committed suicide tbh.

If he'd died in an accident or something not of his own doing then fair enough

Bluntly as forest put it, it wasn't exactly tragic leaving his child and wife.
But it's good to appreciate the person he was, rip

Suicide Isn't tragic then, nor is depression? Try telling that to GK01, If I'm right, he suffers from it, don't be so insensitive.

Anyway, nice to see the city pay respects to him.

I suffer from depression as well. Not easy.

Though I do not agree having a street named after him. Not because of his suicide, because there are far more important people out there.

Do you know what the definition of tragic is? If a boy gets hit by a car because of a bad driver does that make it tragic? no it doesn't, look up the definition of tragic before you just throw it around. What he did wasn't in the best interests of his family, he was a good man but despite his depression he should of dealt with it for the sake of his family. If he was so good at supporting what he believed in and maintaining his football then why did he have to result to committing suicide. I know what depression feels like, there's thinking you can't deal with it and then there's knowing you can't deal with it but again as i was saying, how did he manage to still put efforts into what he took part in? I don't know how bad it was, but i'm just sorry it had to come to him committing suicide

Exactly, clinical depression is a mental illness, people get put on medication for that.

Not tragic? His daughter died for crying out loud. His own daughter.

That is the worst thing in the world, a parent losing their own child. That's where it began and he never got over that.

How anyone can just brush it off as depression or a normal suicide is disgusting.

Yes i know that's how it happened, but at the time of his death he still had a child and a wife which will need to struggle without him. The death of his child led to his depression which none of us will know what feels like right now but from assumptions on how he dealt with it, it didn't affect him openly to the extent when he was notably depressed within public knowledge and on the field until his death. The basis of tragedy is usually defined as a person with good intentions but with a flaw.. now it's assumed it's just something bad

    That's what a tragedy is.

A disastrous event, especially one involving distressing loss or injury to life.

Is one definition of the word. I'd say that, it's a tragic event.
