Scoreline = / = Performance
Germany would still have the upper hand at half time, through tactical, formation and disciplinary reasons.
They would have been shot to pieces. It wouldn't have surprised me if they didn't really turn up for the second half tbh.
momentum in footall can be a killer. the Germans knew they had dodged a bullett at half time and were probably laughing their arses off. had it been 2 2. that dressing room would have been markedly different. as would England's, they would have been seething at half time and full of the belief that they could equalise at any point, only to be undone with a third sucker punch and left dejected.
England should have had the momentum, half the England team play for huge clubs and thrive in a successful environment. coming from 2 down v Germany is an achievement and would have been our first success at the finals!
West Germany came from 2 down to beat England in 1970. Momentum can be key!
