    No they aren't. Last season Portsmouth were in a massive financial crisis which basically condemned them to relegation, West Ham are just playing shite at the moment, they're in nowhere near as much trouble as Pompey were last season. Neutral

    Maybe they need a wake-up call like Newcastle by dropping down to the Championship then popping straight back up.

    Avram Grant..

    Piquionne..

    Ben-Haim..

    Obinna = Dindane

    Parker = Kevin Prince Boateng

    West ham are going on a Cup run albeit in the Carling Cup like Portsmouth did in the FA cup

    Just need to wait for them to go into administration.

    Hardly. Got Chelsea to their only Champions League Final, came close to a treble with them - with another man's team. Had no chance at Portsmouth, nobody did. And tbh, West Ham are just shit.

    To answer the question, no. West Ham will go down because they are shit. Portsmouth went down because they were in massive debts and became shit.. Neutral

    with regard to the title of this thread; "is west ham the new portsmouth?"

    although it is gramatically correct, us in the UK would never phrase the question like that! we would always say, whether verbally or written "are west ham....."

    roloman you're not american, you live there right? in your native language would you refer to your football team or anybody else's for that matter as "it"?

    its something that has always bothered me about americans that grammar seems more important to them than..... i cant explain it, but i would never refer to someones football team as "it". "it" seems so cold, wheres the familiarity? even if its someone elses team, even a big rival, "it" is just harsh. like calling someones mum "it". thats just rude.

    mums and football teams are too important!

    Grant is shite, that Chelsea team basically managed itself, Portsmouth and West Ham are shit, but even if they weren't, I doubt he could get anything out of either club.

    Not changing it at all, it's relevant lol.

    Just saying, Arsene has gone 5 years without a trophy - and has had plenty of time/money to build a squad and hasn't come close to a treble recently.

    Avram Grant did that with someone else's squad. I'd call that an achievement.

    Not when the squad he used was built with hundreds of millions. Wenger has built the squad from hardly spending anything

    Lol @ the Arsenal fan saying Grant is shite because he came close to winning the terbile in 07/08 yet Arsene Wenger hasn't won anything at Arsenal since 2005.

    Grant did a brilliant job at Chelsea, he should never had gotten sacked tbh. Neutral

    Arsene has shown he is capable enough to win something and has done over his Arsenal career which is why he is still manager after a 5 year drought, Avram Grant couldn't win a single thing with a squad consisting of superstars and you want to focus on why Arsene Wenger is trophyless. I suppose Joachim Loew is also what u are practically implying as a shit manager too because he hasn't won anything recently.

    He didn't do a brilliant job at Chelsea therefore he was sacked after not winning in a team willing to spend which already had superstars, the difference incase you haven't realised is bolded
