They should make all votes public. Then we'd see the corrupt bastards from the genuine voters.

I'm not sure why that would expose corruption, necessarily. It would expose liars. But how do you tell somebody is corrupt automatically from the way they vote? Are we assuming that everybody who voted for Russia or Qatar, for examples, did so for corrupt reasons?

Well, they didn't vote for them because they were the best bid, did they..

Maybe some of them genuinely thought it was the best place to have it.

Hard to believe, I know. But FIFA seems to be on an "expanding horizons" crusade suddenly.

Certainly, if it was based entirely on the technical bids, England and America would have won. America's technical bid was virtually flawless, and England's was right up there as well. There's almost zero risk to having the World Cup in either country.

Obviously, risk isn't the primary motivator these days.
