Ronaldo's big game woes continue Empty Ronaldo's big game woes continue

Post by menalawyerguy Tue Nov 30, 2010 8:26 pm

Last night wasn't his fault, but he was nearly useless nonetheless. His biggest impact on the game was when he shoved Guardiola. They were so severely outplayed he almost never had a chance to make an impact. But even if last night had nothing to do with him, when was the last time he had a big game in a big game? Champions League final vs. Chelsea?

Whole Madrid side were outplayed, if Ronaldo was playing for Barcelona he would have done so much more.

    Messi is still better.

He really had limited support, he had few good shots, put a ball in for Benzema that was dangerous, if he was playing for Barca it would be a diffferent story, Madrid's midfield couldn't keep hold of the ball.

Well obviously I'd say this even if I was wrong because I'm a United fan but I think he should have stayed with us and made himself even more of a legend.

Last night wasn't his fault but his tendency to disappear in big games is becoming habitual. Where's he been in games like this? Since joining Real Madrid, they haven't won a single bona fide big game. They haven't even scored on Barca since he joined. They crashed out of the Champions League to an inferior frog side last year with Ronaldo scoring a goal in the home fixture but not much more. A player of his caliber should have been able to take that tie by the scruff and make sure they progressed.

Like when he smashed one in from 40 yards away to Porto to send us through, and smashed in a 35 yard freekick and an amazing counter attack away to Arsenal to put us through to the final.

Doing something against Arsenal isn't amazing. Our defence is shocking anyway and we had Almunia in goal at the time. Ronaldo's big game woes continue 706492

I joke, but still, good free-kick but Almunia coulda done better. Ronaldo's big game woes continue 279869

Read my post again guys. I didn't say that he's never been good in big games. I even specifically acknowledge a big game that he was great in: the Champions League Final that you yourself just referenced Mal. Did you miss that part of my post?

What I mean is it has been a while since he he delivered in a big game. It hasn't happened since he joined Real Madrid, has it?

I thought Ronaldo was obviously a class above every other Madrid player when he was on the ball. He was the only one who was actually doing anything wiith it.

It was so easy for Barcelona because they were working as a team, and they always seem to find space. Ronaldo had to do a lot of dribbling, use strength and do ambitious passing just to get anywhere.

It's hard to say how it happens...Barcelona just seem to be good enough to close down the players and always be in the right position for passes too.

    A. That's bullshit. He's certainly not a "country mile" better than Messi. He's at least less than a "county mile" better than Messi. Some people might even have the audacity to argue that Messi is better. Psychotic, I know. All Messi has done is score something like 70 goals in his last 68 club matches. Nothing major.

    B. Even if he was a country mile better than anybody (which he's not), that's not the issue. The issue is why has a player like that (especially if he was a country mile better than everyone) struggled to make an impact in big games in recent years?

Funny how the Ronaldo bumboys can't stay on topic.

Ronaldo was poor last night, his passing, his control with the ball. Yes he didnt get much of it but what he did have of it he was poor.

If people really wanna compare Messi and Ronaldo then..

Ronaldo is better in a counter attacking team

Messi is better any other team. Messi can create something out of nothing from the smallest place.
I've never seen Ronaldo dribbles past 5 players then score.

Agreed. While you're left anus has more pace, your right anus has much better technique and stamina. Seem to be about equal on work rate.

Ronaldo was poor, but was still Madrid's best player. I really wouldn't look at him to take the blame or anything in last nights lost, he got very close to scoring on audacious free kicks, he played in Benzema early in the game with a great diagonal ball on the ground that Abidal just got to, the midfield got overrun and he couldnt get the ball, Alonso, Khedira, Benzema, and Ozil played much worse.

I know this isn't really on topic, but the whole Ronaldo vs Messi thing is ridiculous. I don't get how people are so adamant that Messi is better. Ronaldo has tore it up in the Premier League AND the La Liga.

Who knows how Messi would do over here? Out of his comfort zone, without an amazing Barcelona team surrounding him? Just compare his record at Barcelona to his record with Argentina and you have solid proof that the Barcelona team/style is a fundamental part of his success. Whereas Ronaldo has been a success at two massive clubs in two massive leagues.

    Ronaldo > Messi

You're right. It's not on topic.

Nonetheless, I can understand you disagreeing with conventional wisdom (and it is indeed the convention) that Messi is better than Ronaldo (even Kyro agrees). What I find absolutely hilarious is how you cannot even fathom why people think Messi is better. The majority of people think Messi is better, but you're acting like it's ludicrous. 17 goals in 11 games, 70 goals in last 68 (or something like that). At least admit that they're comparable. You're acting like we're comparing Cantona to Bendtner here.
