A question about full backs
We all know about full backs who are great attackers but can't defend, (Johnson,Alves,Bosewinga) my question is how come managers never see this and try them out as wingers, worked well for Bale.

Worked well for Marcelo too, no idea why they don´t try it.

Well for those three their teams already have enough good wingers.

Re: A question about full backs
Probably because Barcelona are full of attacking talent, and he just adds another dimension to their attack.
But I agree with Johnson.

Guardiola tried Alves on the wing once.
Didn't work.

Johnson's pace would be better than Kuyt as a right winger
Alves fair enough
And Inter are like the most narrow team in Europe

Tbh, Rafa's defensive game is still a bit suspect. He's gonna be the best right back in the world no, I've got no doubts.

Re: A question about full backs
Because attacking as a full back and as a winger are completely different.

Re: A question about full backs
They're more effective when they're attacking from deep and overlapping other players.

No, not better than Johnson, he's their best winger by a mile, I'm guessing you're judging their "wingers" based on FM.SBSP_FIFA wrote:Well, better than Johnson.kyro7 wrote:Liverpool have enough good wingers??SBSP_FIFA wrote:Well for those three their teams already have enough good wingers.

Re: A question about full backs
Probably because a decent fullback is hard to come by whereas, decent wingers are commonly found

Re: A question about full backs
Yes they are. Johnson scores a couple of goals at the beginning of last season and people think he's an attacking ace.kyro7 wrote:They're not better wingers.SBSP_FIFA wrote:Maxi and Kuyt are both better than Johnson at attacking.kyro7 wrote:No, not better than Johnson, he's their best winger by a mile, I'm guessing you're judging their "wingers" based on FM.SBSP_FIFA wrote:Well, better than Johnson.kyro7 wrote:Liverpool have enough good wingers??SBSP_FIFA wrote:Well for those three their teams already have enough good wingers.

Re: A question about full backs
To be honest, I don't think anyone in the modern game is really trained to be a fullback anymore, Ashley Cole was a winger in Arsenal's youth system and was converted to a full back, Bale was converted the other way because he couldn't defend, Tim Vickery talks a lot about how when Ramieres was young he was close to becoming a fullback because he has like 3 lungs. So I think that in a pinch, these managers could actually play their fullbacks as wingers if really necessary, but training one who's like 24+ to become a full time winger is a different story.

Re: A question about full backs
Probably because they don't have enough cover/quality for the fullback positions or because they havebetter wingers.

Agree,
Only a few fullbacks are trained to be great on both attacking and defensive part of the game, like Andoni Iraola.

Re: A question about full backs
Some are. Albertazzi trained as a fullback before being taught to be a CB, for example. De Silvestri, Balzaretti (pretty sure), C. Zaccardo, Cassani, etc. So that statement's not really true.
