Gerrard and Henderson together are a defensive liability, but I don't see any better options. Sterling was probably your best player going forward; he really is a joy to watch. Rooney had a bit of a shocker apart from that beautiful assist. I think he needs to play in the middle, especially since Sterling looks better on the wing.

I thought Sterling played well in the middle, then Hodgson decided to send him to the wing to get to the byline and cross it in to Sturridge because he scores so many headed goals.

Sturridge looked very sharp, I expect him to be the first striker to represent England well at a tournament since Michael Owen.  I wouldn't be against Rooney retiring out of principle, that would save Hodgson from having to pull a trigger he never will.

Uruguay shouldn't be a problem if Suarez is still out, if he's fit then we can all at least enjoy watching Gerrard getting pushed three years closer to full retirement.

Criticising how he played for England but complimenting him for how he plays for Liverpool is points scoring against Liverpool fans? Not sure how you worked that out. It's pretty obvious that you're overly sensitive when it comes to Sterling.

I didn't repeat myself, I called him "average" and compared him to Welbeck. I made the comparison with Welbeck because a lot of the build up to this games was dealing with whether Hodgson would start Sterling ahead of Welbeck. Everyone acted like it would be sacrilege to pick Welbeck ahead of Sterling when in actuality he didn't play any better than Welbeck.

If you don't care what "no marks" like me think and don't want to waste your time, why are you having this discussion?  Why have you reacted like a child over some mild criticism?
It seems like you have some deep rooted insecurity issues when it comes to Sterling.

He's representing Liverpool when playing for England. Liverpool fans want to see him do well for England. You could see that Scott was praising him and as you usually stalk him on here you decided you would post something that would get a response from him or another Liverpool fan. Are you a supporter of Liverpool FC or Sterling? Or do you only support England because Liverpool players play for them? scratch  I'm sure Barcelona fans are seething when people criticize Messi for Argentina. They aren't because they are secure in the knowledge that he's good enough for them that if he's underwhelming for the national team then it is most likely due to mitigating circumstances and not his own ability. You need to make peace with that. Sterling isn't above criticism, and when people do criticise it isn't out of some imaginary bitterness you've concocted.

You're right, Dave, the majority of the Media pointed out how well Sterling played last night. He was the best English player, until he got shunted out wide, which was an awful decision. Loved the way he dribbled past the Italians with such ease. Only 19 years old too. The only player who managed to tackle Pirlo. I think the whole ground fell silent when that shit happened.

His assist of an assist was superb too. Dat turn, dribble and through ball. Coutinho would have been proud.

Of course the Arsenal fans on here are gonna act like Welbeck did better, the bitter fucks Laughing All they have to shout about for England is Wilshere, who was absolutely shit, and The Ox, who is always injured, so of course, the jealousy is going to shine through. It's very predictable.

Welbeck did better than usual. Was less of a donkey, but he didn't actually do anything significant. Had a terrible shot that went well wide, and messed up a simple cut back to Sturridge after a good dribble, which should have been a certain goal.

Sterling had the nation on their feet within the first minute, with that shot that everyone thought was a goal. He was magnificent.

    And again, he's only 19.

I didn't see the second half last night but I thought Sterling was probabky England's best player in the first half. I've read three websites' grade reports and all of them had Sterling rated the highest or tied for highest. He got two 8s and one 7.  Are they all delusional?
