I remember the second leg Super Cup a couple of years ago vs. Valencia (?). Real were down to 9 men a little past midway of the 2nd half. Robben's response was pretty much, "Cool! More ball hogging for me then." Went on to win the game almost single-handedly. Laughing

Martinez should have been sent off. It was an erroneous decision, it was not indicative of a conspiracy, Daniel.

A player must be red carded if he is guilty of serious foul play. The challenges of Nani and Martinez both constituted serious foul play.

You can't use previous judgments as a standard for yellow/red cards. Just because de Jong was not sent off for kicking out Xabi Alonso's vital organs, it does not mean that every similar challenge must be treated the same way.

Not a single player on the pitch was calling for either of them to be sent off.

That is because these players are used to referees doing the wrong thing.

    I don't like this statement.

It insinuates that a foot ballplayer is more knowledgeable about the rules of the game than a professional referee.

Might as well scrap refs all together and let Rio Ferdinand call the game.

Some players are certainly almost as smart as an average referee. I look at players like Ronaldo and Bale when I say that statement. They understand the rules regarding infringements of the laws of the game, and they help the referee immensely by drawing attention to mistimed tackles by thuggish defenders and dirty shirt-pulling tactics.

I did not imply that Rio Ferdinand should be in charge of all professional football matches.

I think I just wanted to get that opinion off my chest. It's a bit late to be arguing it anyway.

I was reading the Lord of the Rings appendices, and I was surprised to find, among other things, that Aragorn was older than Théoden and Frodo was older than Boromir.

Rumour has it there are around 500 copies of The Hobbit book that have the word 'dildo' randomly printed in the middle of a sentence on page 129. Some guy at a publishers thought it would be good banter and no one realised until after a few batches had gone out.

The dildo books are really rare and worth quite a bit too apparently.

Unfortunately mine doesn't say dildo Sad

    The book's appendices are awesome.

Aragorn was also older than Denethor, father for Faramir and Boromir. He served under Denethor's father in Gondor's guard for a while under an assumed name.

Just an interesting note on Frodo. In the movie Gandalf comes back immediately after letting him keep the ring. In the book I think it took him over ten years to comes back.

    @SB: Jesus. That video, man.

Merry is also older than Faramir and Sam, and Pippin is older than Éomer. Surprised

I think Frodo is 33 when Gandalf tells him about the ring and 50 when he finally sets out. It's pretty interesting that none of the famous quotes from the movies are actually in the books.

    Grazie, Dena.

Saw an Arsenal fan railing against the away goals rule earlier. Called their win "just an impressive as Bayern winning 3x1..." Made it look like UEFA flipped on an away goals switch to keep Arsenal out of the quarters. Laughing

Btw, Che. Tijuana got their asses handed to them off the plastic pitch. Just as you predicted. shifty

Happens every time someone goes out on away goals. Laughing
