Are English football clubs ran by stupid idiots?

mf's, I think they are.

English clubs seem to lose their top players so often for such little money. Whereas in Spain, the top players stay with Barca as Madrid for ages unless the club decides its time to sell.

Imagine if Arsenal wanted to sign Xavi. He would have a huge release clause in his contract and Arsenal would have no chance. But if Barca wanted to sign Wilshere he'd be off to Spain in an instant for as little as £20m

On Football Manager I always give my players a big release clause. I think clubs should do this in real life. Man Utd should have had a £200m release clause for Ronaldo as he was the best player in the world at the time.

Arsenal.

Madrid and Barcalona are the best clubs in the world, could have something to do with it.

Spanish clubs only have release clauses because they have to.

Spanish/Catalan footballers are all brought up with their clubs. As for Xavi, he bleeds Barca. English football is about £ and that's it

Xavi is lucky that he's got the talent and grew up with the right team. If he grew up with the same talent but closest to, say, Real Zaragoza I can almost guarantee he wouldn't 'bleed' them and would move on to a bigger club. Loads of Spanish players have done that recently, David Villa, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba, Javi Martinez to name a few.

Spain isn't so different to England, when you get a talented English player in a good team they generally stay where they are too. It just happens less because the talent is much shitter here.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are the best teams in the world. Anyone would want to join them. There are still several big names that arrive to the BPL, because the two big teams of Spain can't field them all. Arsenal is just an exception because they are getting worse every year and the players can't win anything.

Release clauses don't mean much. A Spanish club can accept a smaller transfer fee if they want. And if a club does actually want to pay the release clause, the player doesn't have to accept the move.

They can actually make it difficult for a team even if they do meet the release clause and force them to pay a fair bit more. Remember reading an article about it.

Yes so if you don't have a release clause you don't have to accept anything, which is better for the club.

Some Russian club accepted Messi's €250 million release clause recently and offered Messi €30 million a year. He rejected the offer.
