Just wanted to see the forum's opinion on this. Palmeiras played Internacional 2 round ago in the Brasileirao. Inter were leading 2x1 when this happened.
Just to expand on the events in detail. The Palmeiras guy put the ball in the net and the ref awarded the goal, but the Inter fans protested that it was a handball. The ref went to the man behind the goal or the linesman (don't remember which one) to get a second opinion. The thing is that the other ref had watched the replay on the screen, which clearly showed that it was a handball, and then told the main ref to disallow the goal. Inter went on to win 2x1.
After the game Palmeiras protested the result saying that using video evidence is against the rules (which it is by FIFA's laws), so either the goal should be reinstated or the game should be replayed. For now, no points have been awarded to either team.
The matter is further complicated by the fact that Palmeiras are in serious relegation trouble, so they're desperate for even a point. If the STJD (Brazil's football court) does anything other than to let to result stand, then the other relegation candidates are going to raise hell, and say that it's favoritism towards a big team who the suits don't want to go down. If the result stands, then Palmeiras fans will shout daylight robbery, and use it as an excuse as to why they went down, despite the fact that they're been crap all year.
I think the result should stay as it is, and Inter should get all the points, but I do recognize that the way the decision was made was against the rules.
