Does that mean Pepe deserves it more than Messi, too? Hell...Xabi won the League title AND the Euro. So did Casillas and Sergio Ramos. Messi shouldn't even be a finalist.

Considering this is an individual award, Messi has done more. He scored the most goals in a season than anyone in the history of the sport. He assisted plenty as well. He was so vital for Barca last season with Villa injured. He helped Barca win the Copa del Rey title and did better than Ronaldo in the Champions League.
For country, there was no Copa America, but this year was Messi's best year for Argentina. He was just as crucial for the national team and led them to several wins.
So the only thing Ronaldo has going for him is that his team won La Liga (even though Messi was the better player in La Liga). That's not something that makes him the best player of 2012. As someone mentioned earlier, there are players that won titles for Spain and Real Madrid this year. Do they deserve it more than Messi?
