Yes, that might be how french people pronounce it, but I'm not french and neither are any of you.

Does anybody here pronounce his surname like that? No.

Most people will either say Chesney or Si-shezny.

I explained why in the rest of the post. The word does not change it's pronunciation. However, it is said differently, often due to the convenience of the speaker (due to accent/dialects/language and speech variation). The fact you don't say 'azar' around your mates doesn't make it right.

Exactly. I really don't see what's wrong with attempting the way Szczesny himself would pronounce it. Like Dan says, we're not always going to get it right but in cases like this when the name is virtually unpronounceable in English, what are we meant to do? Not say his name? Make him change his name to Walter Smith?

If they are in England, an it's virtually impossible to say their name then they should adopt an English name. That's why you get thousands of Chinese students with random English names.

If they're an arrogant fucker then they won't adopt an English name.

Without an English name they will struggle getting jobs and stuff, if people can't even say their name

I really don't see what Jela's point is. If we can pronounce it how we like it, what's wrong with the commentator saying it right?

And yes, I pronounce the J in "Jela" like in "jelly."
