A police officer and another man have been shot dead near a United States college campus - with the suspected shooter also killed in the gunfight.
Another three police officers and a woman were also wounded during the shootings in the area just east of Texas A&M University.
The officer killed has been named as Brian Bachmann, 41, who had responded to a call to a home near the university's campus in College Station.
It is being reported Mr Bachmann was assisting with an eviction.
The man suspected of the shootings had earlier been taken into custody, but has since died of injuries suffered during an exchange of gunfire with police
Assistant Police Chief Scott McCollum told a press conference that Mr Bachmann and a male civilian had been killed, but said he could say why officers had been sent to the address.
Bryan Police spokesman Jon Agnew said officers had established a cordon around the area just east of campus, but that they do not believe a second suspect is involved.
He said two other injured officers received hospital treatment and that the civilian woman hurt was undergoing surgery.
The university issued a statement on its website just before 12.30pm local time on Monday, warning of an active shooter near the campus football stadium, Kyle Field. Residents and students were advised to avoid the area.
College Station lies about 90 miles northwest of Houston.
