Tbf it was a nasty cut, although I don't think it's that bad to be out for 4 weeks.

Just read about Rooney's injury. It probably looks a lot worse than it actually is but he'll be a big loss. Would've loved to see the van Persie/Rooney partnership start off strong but at least Robin got on the scoresheet today. Listened to the second half on the radio and it seemed Fulham really tested us, relieved we came away with the victory.

It's very good in parts but a lot of it delves into his spats with Alf Inge Haaland and Mick McCarthy and his late night antics in nightclubs etc. The person who wrote it, Eamon Dunphy, is very controversial, or was, here in Ireland. He had very negative views about Cristiano Ronaldo about 4 or 5 years ago when he was ripping shit up with United. That instantly got me to hate him. Laughing It could have been a lot better if written by another author as Dunphy and Keane were great pals when this was written but have since fallen out and I felt it never really explores the enigma of Roy Keane. The FAI are shown for what they really are in this book, a shambles. Don't get me wrong it's a good book, but a different author might have made it even better.

Having been afforded a rousing ovation by a packed Old Trafford on his home debut, Robin van Persie was delighted to return the favour with a breath-taking goal in the Reds’ win over Fulham.

The Dutchman scored a fabulous equaliser to cancel out Damien Duff’s opening goal and generally impressed as United edged out the Cottagers in a five-goal affair.

While conceding that his home bow was a ‘different’ experience van Persie admitted it was an afternoon to savour, telling MUTV: “I think I’ll always look back on this game; that we won on my home debut and that I scored a good goal.

“It was different, of course. I came here a couple of times before but I always liked this stadium, the size of it. The pitch is big, the pitch is always nice. Now I’m a United player, everyone knows that and I’m looking forward to this challenge. The fans have been brilliant today, supporting us and they gave me a very warm welcome, so I’m very pleased.

“It was a bit nervy, but we held on and the main thing was that we got the points today, so that’s out of the way and it was a good day in the end, a good three points.”

Despite the sublime technical skill required to execute his tenth-minute strike against the Cottagers, the Dutchman modestly insisted that luck had played a part.

“I think I could only do one thing there because it came with a little bit of a bounce,” he said, “and so I had to time it well. Sometimes you’re lucky and I was today, luckily enough.

Though the Reds are now off and running, with van Persie making a quick integration to the attack – rendered even more important by Wayne Rooney’s gashed thigh – the Dutchman insists there is much more to come on a personal and collective basis.

“Training sessions have been very good and with all the guys it’s a process,” he said. “I have to get used to them, they have to get used to me, because I’ve still only been here a week. We have all the time in the world. I don’t want to rush into things.

“I’m not one hundred percent match fit, it’s my first game of the whole pre-season in over a month so I have to get fitter and fitter. I’ll get fitter by playing games, basically, so I still need a couple of weeks before I’m fully match fit.”

Shame it's from 2002, if it was more recent he could have mentioned quitting United and what a bollocks manager he is. What a Face

Finished Scholes' the other day, very good. Feels weird reading all the stuff he says about having used to play for United, future in coaching etc... when he's here for another year.

In contrast to what Valencia offered in the first half Young was terrible, I'm a big fan but he really needs to be more consistent.

You guys look like you did this time last year, great going forward and horrible at the back. I sense another 6-1.... Having said that, maybe I should wait till after tomorrow's game before stating that City will tear you apart... silent

Well what are you expecting? Our defence consists of a midfielder and a centre back who hasn't played since December.

Or maybe you should wait until we have more than 1 central defender avaliable.

Thought Carrick coped a bit better today thankfully, Van Persie's goal was immaculate and whilst De Gea made that complete fuck up with Vidic, he made some saves which looked good (I given up judging them when De Gea saves them Laughing) but as soon as we get the defence back up to speed we'll be better to judge.

Maybe, but you conceded from a set piece and a mistake by that one permanent central defender and your permanent goalkeeper.

I think our defence should be judged when everyone's fit in that certain position.

The only worry I have against Rafael is the fact he plays as a winger, whilst out defence is as weak as he is his open space could cause problems. When Smalling is back however we'll have the choice of him or Rafael at right back so all will be fine Very Happy

Still looks like he concedes needless fouls. shifty
