So what about the team dynamics that make up a big part of cycling (from my knowledge) teams usually help a main rider out, so all that work and no medal to show for it?

Road cycling is essentially a team sport, usually in a big tour like the Tour de France, there will be a team leader who will go for the overall win, but all prize money won by the team will be equally distributed throughout the team at the end.dena wrote:ayvee1 wrote:Individuals.

In this instance, Team GB directors know that their best chance of a gold medal is Mark Cavendish, so for the good of the team as a whole, they are all riding for the man most likely to win.

Are other teams doing the same? Or is it a mix of some nations acting as a team and some individually (if you know what i mean)

The commentator on the cycling is so shit. He was calling the leader a wrong name for 5 minutes, then when third came through he goes "It's Spain now, no it was Denmark, actually it was Netherlands, it was Netherlands"
It wasn't even close.

Shame that Cav never got a chance to contest. It was too much for GB to do with only four guys, the Germans needed to come through sooner and help the chase.
Great win by Vinokourov though, Uran was never going to be able to beat him in a sprint regardless of the jump he got.

It depends who they have in the team. Teams like GB and Germany for example are more likely to work as a team because they have very good sprinters in their team (Cav and Greipel respectively), other teams that don't have a recognised fast-man are more likely to work for themselves and get into breakaways and go it alone.dena wrote:ayvee1 wrote:Road cycling is essentially a team sport, usually in a big tour like the Tour de France, there will be a team leader who will go for the overall win, but all prize money won by the team will be equally distributed throughout the team at the end.

Oh and I know it seems funny that a guy from Kazakhstan won the gold, but Vinokourov is one of the best cyclists of the past decade.
