I hated pre-season with rugby, usually just involved running until throwing up. If I ever ran a team I'd make them play a really quick paced game for fitness, way less boring.

That's basically what happened to me in the first two sessions, pushed myself to the stage where I was physically sick. Although on Monday night we were pushed pretty hard and I managed to get through it without vomiting, which shows progress I suppose. Tonight will be more strength/gym work though and less stamina. Then a quick match at the end. Smile

Few Burscough "players" we're doing sprints pretty much the full length of the pitch there and back at half time against Everton, around 10 times. 2 were regular first teamers, had no problem. Felt sorry for the other 2 though, one was either slow as fuck or had no stamina, and the other was a bit fat. shifty

Strangely, the fat bloke decided to run more than the others, instead of walking towards the other end of the pitch before actually running. Laughing

All training should be done with a ball, typical English running without the ball crap though. Rolling Eyes

I did too. It was very interesting. By far the most riveting article on there in a while.

Well they say that you have to get up to the required fitness levels before any ball work can be done, which does make sense, as if you're unfit and doing ball work you're not going to do it as well as you would with adequate fitness levels, right? Smile

I'm saying fitness work should be done with a ball, Mourinho incorporates ball work into every single drill. You should be used to having the ball at your feet rather than just running up and down like Lee Cattermole.

Ah right I see what you mean - you're combining the two then. think That would probably suit professional teams with professional players, but maybe not so the lower down, semi-professional/amateur teams who aren't as gifted. That's just my view on it though.

Tbf, the only time you really see extended work without the ball is pre-season, to get your fitness back. shifty

That's what I mean, you need to break in the players at my clubs standard slower, working purely on fitness first then slowly introducing practice games to keep them engaged and then ball-incorporated drills. As I know if I was faced with a ball drill on my first session last week I would of been very daunted by it and it would put it me of to be honest. But then again, I'm not a very confident person, so the braver players might appreciate more ball work sooner. Everyone is different I suppose.

    Wow. Laughing

I mean, I only ever really see Burscough training before a game, but most of the time it's a coach/player working with the keeper(s) and the majority of the squad doing ball work. What a Face

I don't get it, the make the characters look like knobs, make 2 of them act completely different, yet copy the storylines from ours. silent
