    Sleeping Empty Sleeping

Post by crump Mon Jul 09, 2012 10:21 pm

Basically, thought we could discuss sleeping habits, maybe share advice.

My sort of issues are, basically for the last year I set my alarm, go to bed at a reasonable time, aiming for 7-8 hours sleep when I have to be up early, I just can't wake up. I'll set like 5 alarms and I'll just press snooze, I've set them at every corner of the room and I'll end up turning into a sweaty mess running round the house because I'm constantly running late, and I have to get my Mum to wake me up if she's up at a similar time.

I have no idea what causes it.

But yesterday I had to be up at 7, I went to bed at 11, but couldn't sleep till 2, went to bed at 2, woke up at 7 and woke up perfectly not even tired. The fuck man.

The whole not feeling tired is to do with a thing called Sleep Cycles apparently, if you wake up halfway through a cycle that's what makes you feel tired no matter how many hours you've had.

I also read we sleep in 1.5 hour cycles.

Theres a website that calculated when you should go to bed, that would be really handy.

Did that the other night. I actually sat up on my bed and sat down in a criss-cross position on the other side of my bed for about 10 seconds. Then was like "dafuq" then went back to bed.

Sleep paralysis thread? shifty Sean shit himself at that Laughing

Basically my sleep patterns all fall upon what I'm going to be doing the next day.. I can't seem to control this. If I have plans then my body will allow me to feel tired and fall asleep at an acceptable time to get up the next day. If I'm planless then I stay awake all night, sometimes until stupid times such as 8 in the morning and then fall aleep and sleep through the afternoon. Terrible habbit.

I have been using sleeping pills to fix my cycle recently. Neutral I stayed up until two a few nights, then for the next week, I just ended up staring blankly for hours until about 4.

    Will this strategy work somewhat?

I have a similar problem but it's not the sort of thing that can be fixed over one night. I'm not sure whether it's better or worse that most days I have the luxury of having nothing to get out of bed for. But waking up later always means I go to sleep later that night/morning after and it becomes a vicious cycle. It gets to a point where I have to stop up all night and the following day so I can sleep at a reasonable hour, but even then I find it difficult to stick to the routine of getting up early & going to bed early. That's why you'll find me posting shit on here at 3 in the morning.

I find that if you to bed when you're not tired then you simply won't sleep, which is maybe what your problem is. If you drink shit loads of coffee & whatnot throughout the day, maybe cut that out and you won't feel awake for as long.

I also find that if you ignore that tired feeling for whatever reason and have some coffee or just try to stay awake, you end up getting over feeling tired and staying awake 'til silly o'clock and the problem starts again.

    Yeah well said.

Also, I've realised If I've spent a day playing xbox, tv etc doing nothing, I won't be tired because I simply haven't made my body work so it's got loads of energy and hence may not want to sleep, that sort of stuff. It's weird man.

I can never make myself go to sleep. Like at work today I was feeling fucked, really tired from the weekend. Went on a 1.5 hour bike ride from 7 till half 8, so by now I should be falling asleep at my desk. But I feel really awake. Neutral and I know tomorrow morning I'll be pissed off with myself for staying up and I'll feel like shit even more at work.

Fairly tired today. Discovered the Formula Sim Racing mod for rFactor last night. Was up til 6am messing with that, then woke up at 10am. I've never really had a regular sleep pattern for more than a month or two.

I roll and thrash around violently in my sleep to get myself comfortably positioned in my bed. My sleeping habits are downright awful but thats college for you.
