Simple question really. Do you follow your local football league?

I don't know how it works in England, or large built-up cities etc. But I assume that there are amateur, grassroots leagues in your local area/region etc. I'm just wondering if you actually follow your local leagues.

Some of you may think that, being a Coleraine fan, I am following my local team. But that's not true. My family and I are Coleraine followers due to family ties in that area, but they are located in the North-West of Northern Ireland, and we all live in the South-West.

I used to never give a toss about the local leagues down here, used to criticise the standard, organisation etc. It was not until I got involved in coaching at a local youth team at the start of the year that I began to take an interest in football locally. Since then I've been keeping an eye on results, league tables, taken in a couple of games when I've had no Coleraine commitments and hopefully I am getting involved in the senior football side with my local team for the new season.

This isn't an official website, but if you're interested, you can look at the league tables and all here:
    http://division1.leaguerepublic.com/

I won't slag anyone for not following their local league, as only recently have I began to take an interest.

    Discuss. Smile

Define "local league". My local team plays in Norway's top division, so that's fairly easy to follow and not too bad to watch (although lately it's been horrific). However in the same city there are 6 tiers of league football, most of which utter crap.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what Local leauge is. The closest teams near me are LA Galaxy and Chivas USA. It's not too hard to follow them since they are the top tier of American Soccer. Well actually, those aren't the closest clubs to me. There is Carson FC which is located literally in the park 10 feet from this room. They play in a Sunday Leauge though.

    No.

My best friend and his brother plays for my local team, their best recent result was the year before last they met one of the top tier teams in the National Cup tournament and got a big bonus for being the lowest team to make it into the round of 16. they play 6 divisions below the top tier. Its not worth watching though, if i was in shape i could be their goalkeeper, the one they have now i used to play with at u-14 level.

Don't follow any amateur leagues apart from the ones I play in.

I've just joined a new team and our home pitch next season is going to be a semi-professional team's stadium. Fucking buzzing.

Don't follow NASL (USA/Canada second division) at all as it really never is on TV. Follow MLS though and pretty sure Toronto FC is closer to my location than any NASL team.

I suppose it is a bit of a grey area. Since there have been no local teams in the top tier of Northern Irish football (well there will be next season, with the promotion of Ballinamallard), I always consider local leagues to be lower down the footballing pyramid of the countries league system. But you are perfectly within your right to label top-tier teams as your local 'team', as they play in your town/city etc. They play in the National league of your country though, so it's not the 'local' league.

So to answer your question, I would consider the local league to be that which is located entirely within your city/state/county area etc.

    Sorry for the confusion. thumb

You're an Inverness CT fan, aren't you? Well, after doing a bit of research, I think this might be considered your "local" league.

    North Caledonian Football League

Although I could be wrong, the Scottish League system is a bit messed up like in Northern Ireland. Laughing

Nope, maybe ground was a bit ambitious. Bit of grass is more like it Laughing I think there's a small clubhouse too. My dad lives just across the road from it.
