It may not have breached the contract but it certainly didn't go well with Modric, the only possibility of him staying was if you reached CL football, now that you haven't, what's going to convince him to stay at the club when he can play for a team that challenges for the league and not just a place in the Champions league?

1) New manager who can push on from our 4th place finish and look to challenge for the title
2) We finished 4th, should have had CL, if he understands that it just wasn't our year, and that we should be in the CL, he'll stay.
3) Captaincy role up for grabs now, and it's not like he hasn't worn the armband before
4) Having the team built around him, it sure would be a good feeling.

Only one of the best midfielders in the world imo. Sure I'll admit there are a few better than him but he's right up there.

The first one is not guaranteed. You might get a Dalgish. And even then it's much easier to move to a team who will most likely be in the Champions Leauge, than stay with Spurs and hope for the best.
The second one, well that's a sort of "Should've, Could've, or Would've but didn't" moment. Modric wants Champion Leauge football, he's not gonna go, "oh, well we came close! Next year!"
The last two, are kind of naive. Possibility of captain and a "good feeling" isn't really going to matter much to an ambitious professional footballer.
I'm not saying he won't stay, I'm just saying you gave some pretty poor reasons why he would want to stay.

I like him and think he's a good player, but he's never stood out as a worldbeater to me. Maybe it's because he struggles in the big games I don't know. But I think for Man Utd and looking at such a key position they could do better.

I know the first one isn't guaranteed, should have added a possibly in.
With the second one I do feel the players you want around your should understand things like that, I mean not as if we can't do it again, feel the players should understand that.
Becoming a captain is a big thing, I mean if we do end up doing something special he'll most likely be the one remembered for it. Plus he'll be leading out one of the biggest clubs in England right now, if that's not something ambitious strive for then it should be.
And finally would you rather have a team built around you, or face being a benchwarmer at another club?

1. Modric isn't going to wait around as his best years pass him by, only to be let down by another manager failing to win any silverware.
2. Modric is a winner, and I can't see him again falling for the 'well we were this close' excuse. Bottomline, you just need to do it, and at Tottenham he probably, rightly, feels he can't.
3. Doesn't give a shit about the captaincy. Obviously what he wants is CL football, and a good chance at winning titles, something he is not getting at Tottenham.
4. Again, would much rather have CL, title winning football than having a team 'built around him'.

I've always seen him strive in most big games, guess we're seeing him from different perspectives

Look above.
1) Well surely we need to wait to see who comes in if you're going to say his best years will pass him by at Tottenham without winning silverware. It's not out of our reach.
2) But it wasn't a we nearly had it, 5th place finish, it was a we should have had it, just some how we don't, we could replicate that and get it again next season with the right manager + signings.
3) But you can't say we don't have a good chance of CL and titles, we were right in it up until Harry went and opened his mouth for the England job, that's what cost us, a new manager won't do that.
4) But would he rather try again challenge for CL then possibly qualify for it, and play a full 90 minutes every game, or come off the bench with maybe 20 left?

The England thing is nonsense, a few days after Redknapp was linked with the England job you smashed Newcastle 5-0.

And after that we only won 4 games in 13 after Redknapp got more vocal about it.
He's own problem, rejected the contract in Feb, and then went on to say that the CL was overrated and that he would have taken the England job if approached (that was this week, it was unneeded). He didn't have the love for the club a manager should have, we weren't his main priority.

I mean central midfielders, not including wingers etc.

Still don't agree, you've got the Spanish lot of Xavi, Iniesta, Alonso, Fabregas, Busquets, Silva, Cazorla and then players from the premier league like Scholes and Toure plus players like Marchisio, Pirlo and Ozil who are all better.

Fair enough, maybe it is the delusion but I see him as better than some of those

Iniesta and Silva are more of the winger type. Not really sure what Fabregas is these days.

Not really, they are predominately central players it's like me calling Modric a winger because he played on the left a few times this season.

Except Iniesta and Silva haven't played on the wings "a few times this season." They're almost always lined up out wide. And Iniesta in particular is played in forward positions quite often.

Silva played central the first half of the season at City and Iniesta has played central in most games for Barcelona this season and only plays out wide there because of injuries, it doesn't change the fact they are central players.

how could you forget Schweinsteiger
He is a beautiful man. Basti is the best central midfielder in the world
Fucking Modric isn't good enough to clean the boots of Basti

I already had about 10 midfielders so I didn't even think of him.

Didn't breach Modders contract so all good
Just going to paste over here what one girl said on Tumblr, which well sums everything up well.
The fact is, when has Daniel Levy ever done anything to harm the club?
He clearly thinks this is the right decision and he will have made it on business and football grounds, he looks to build a future.
And frankly, Harry’s ‘CL is overrated’ comment didn’t go down well with me and wouldn’t have done down well with a bloke forking out millions to build a bigger stadium and training facilities perfect for a CL regular.
He obviously has something lined up, he wouldn’t leave the club in the lurch. We’re not chelsea and he’s not Abramovich.
In Levy we trust.
He broke a verbal agreement and forced Modric to stay at Tottenham against his will and do things he didn't want to. How is that "all good" ?

The only reason Modric hasn't forced a transfer request is because he wants to show respect to the fans, I don't think he could give a fuck about actual Spuds tbh

Silva is not a CM, he is a AM or a winger in a 3 upfront
