Midfielder Joey Barton joined Queens Park Rangers from Newcastle United last summer
Queens Park Rangers skipper Joey Barton has been banned for 12 matches and fined £75,000 by the Football Association.
The 29-year-old midfielder received the punishment after being found guilty of two counts of violent conduct as well as for his sending off during the defeat by Manchester City in the final match of the season.
Barton was dismissed for an elbow on City striker Carlos Tevez but was then involved in incidents with both Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany as he left the field.
He admitted a charge of violent conduct for kicking out at Aguero although he denied the second charge of alleged violent conduct against Kompany.
The FA's independent regulatory commission found the second charge proved.
Barton was banned for eight matches for the incidents with Aguero and Kompany, which is added to the four-match suspension he received for the initial red card.
The red card is made up of three matches for violent conduct and a further one match as it was Barton’s second dismissal of the season.
