Liverpool's search for a new manager Empty Liverpool's search for a new manager

Post by ResurrectionRooney Fri May 25, 2012 12:15 pm

Thought there should be a thread for this embarrassment.

So far they are in talks with the boss of Wigan, while the unemployed Fabio Capello has turned them down (not surprising, given his comments about wanting a top club), in addition to the manager of Swansea, and the Ajax manager, Frank de Boer.

There's been no word on how their approach for Guardiola went, I imagine he hasn't stopped laughing yet, and Jose The Special One Mourinho ended Liverpool fans' spackulation by signing a new contract with Real Madrid.

    Present odds according to Skybet

    Roberto Martinez 8/15
    Andre Villas-Boas 5/1
    Jurgen Klopp 7/1
    Brendan Rodgers 10/1
    Louis van Gaal 10/1
    Rafael Benitez 14/1
    Frank Rijkaard 16/1
    Carlo Ancelotti 16/1
    Fabio Capello 16/1
    Harry Redknapp 20/1
    Didier Deschamps 20/1
    Michael Laudrup 20/1

OP is wrong, Liverpool turned down Capello and Guardiola, as we want a more experimental manager who can stay with us for decades to come.

    I want Rafa, obviously.

    But it's obviously Martinez.

He's up there because he hasn't leant out of his car and told a reporter he's not up for it.

He is probably away on holiday, but when he comes back he will be straight out in his car and on Sky Sports as soon as. eek2

On the #LFC manager search, two definite contenders are Martinez and Rodgers. Other names considered, but they're the frontrunners. For now.

Would suggest Klopp+Guardiola are pipe dreams. Van Marwijk would take it. Don't know about Low. No contact made with Benitez. AVB NFId. #LFC

Sadly, it's Franco Baldini of Roma in Spain trying to persuade Bielsa to leave Athletic. That'd be amazing. Gerrard as a centre back...

NFId: not, er, invited. Look it up. Van Gaal, I believe, more likely for DOF-type role. My choice? Out of Martinez and Rodgers, Martinez.

But whoever it is, if FSG don't at least talk to Benitez even if it's to discount him, he just becomes a spectre hovering over the new man

    --

Last one's an extremely good point. Benitez could become the new Dalglish/Shearer/Keegan.

Yeah Bielsa would play Gerrard in central defence.
