Barnet winger Mark Marshall has been given a two-year suspension from all footballing activity by the FA. The verdict was reached after Marshall tested positive for Methylhexaneamine after the League Two fixture against Dagenham on December 26, 2011.

The 25-year-old, who was provisionally suspended by the Bees in January, will not return to action until 2014.

That's a stimulant btw, it's supposed to give you better concentration and intensity when either training or playing sports.

It's legal in this country, but obviously it just falls under doping laws.

I would be very surprised if he knew and took it anyway.

More likely he just didn't check, which is still idiotic.

That would have been an obstruction of justice though, surely? Up with that I will not put.

Yeah the system makes no sense, 8 months for skipping a test.. 2 years for failing a test. Neutral

That would most likely be a reputation killer that could not be reversed. When the team ask why he skiped the drug test what is he going to say? If he gets off the drugs in 2 years he will likely get a second chance. If he does the 8 months he is exploiting a loophole in the law and becomes a liar that no one wants.

Yeah, it's a tough call. On one hand, you want to reward honesty, so maybe having a shorter ban for a failed test than for a skipped test is good. On the other hand, the individual might have missed the test for a legitimate reason or for just complete and utter incompetence. think

That must be why Rio Ferdinand was turfed out of United and languished in the lower divisions after he missed his test. Shame, I thought the lad had some potential.

How full are the jails? If someone skips a test you do not have 100% proof the person in question did the drug. I am sure while in custody he will be forced to take some sort of test. If it is something that does not leave the body completely this would work.

Why the fuck would he be jailed? We don't jail our athletes for skipping drug tests.

Sometimes over here we jail people in between when they are arrested and when they have their day in court, sometimes that is only over night. Although you usually have the option to post bail to be "free" in that time rather than being stuck in jail.

Yes, we have a similar system here, but you have to be suspected of committing a crime before you go to jail, rather than breaking a sporting law.
