FK Željezničar have taken their first Bosnian-Herzegovinian title since 2002, Sunday's 4-1 win home against FK Laktaši sparking celebrations in Sarajevo.
Two Samir Bekrić goals and one each from Mirsad Bešlija and Haris Bešlija delighted a record crowd at the Grbavica Stadium, a defeat for second-placed FK Borac Banja Luka at FK Olimpik Sarajevo giving Amir Osim's side a seven-point lead at the top of the Premijer Liga with one round of fixtures to go. Defeat for Laktaši, meanwhile, means they will be relegated at the end of the season.
Željezničar lost the two-legged Bosnian-Herzegovinian Cup final to Borac on away goals last week but have now claimed five national titles – one in Yugoslavia (1971/72) and four in Bosnia-Herzegovina (1997/98, 2000/01, 2001/02 and this season. "We deserved this title," said Osim, who has guided the club to the last three league triumphs. "I am sorry we didn't win the cup but we are happy. Our fans played a big part in our success."
